When I connect the WM1Z to the TAZ via the Walkman port and it reaches full charge, it then stops charging. No trickle charging that I can detect either. So as long as it's kept connected, battery seems safe. I wonder if that's how Sony designed it. Whereas connecting via the rear USB means you're always having to manage the WM1Z's charge. I personally think if Sony designed the WM1Z to connect to the TAZ via the side port, that's how it should be done.
I wanted to ask, how durable or reliable is the 4.4MM socket? I wonder how well it will hold up overtime if I plug it and unplug it for transportation/stationary (TAZ/1Z). I would like to use the 1Z over the weekend or at night, but during work hours the TAZ, I am a bit concerned of the long term reliability of the 4.4mm pentacon connector.

I remember when I got the ZX300 when it first came out with the 'new' balanced 4.4mm and everyone moaned at a new connection. I was happy with the more solid 4.4mm jack as I've had a couple of 3.5mm get stress cracks after years of use so can't imagine that piddly 2.5mm for portable use. The downside was 4.4 > 3.5mm converters were very expensive, the only option I could get in Japan at the time was a high quality Musashino one for around US$75. I'm happy it has finally become a standard.
