The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!

Just quickly chiming in with a comment. I do not know if we are a niche market for Sony. I exclusively stream with my 1Z. I connect my iPhone to it and I’m able to enjoy the responsiveness and functionality of Qobuz etc. viatheir iOS apps.
Much better responsiveness when compared to the new M2 versions. Slightly inconvenient because two devices are tethered together - however it does not bother me
Well, this is interesting. How is it more responsive? Faster menu movements?

A modern smartphone is significantly faster/more fluid than even the most expensive Android DAP. So using a phone to stream via the OG Sony DAPs is the best of both worlds, except for the inconvenience of having to use two devices. It's a bit easier with Android, since I can stream to the WM1Z using LDAC, and the quality is not far off a wired connection, especially for streaming.

Only problem is that you are streaming 256kb (or is it 320kb) aac but it still sounds good (I use it for movies from my iPad)

Sorry however you both are incorrect. I’m using my iPhone tethered and the 1Z set for USB DAC functionality. Full resolution in Qobuz

Didn’t think of a wired connection

Exactly. Quite honestly after reading most of the comments on the new 1ZM2 I am inclined to remain with my OG 1Z. Obviously I would prefer a single box solution - instead of a wire tether between phone and DAP - however I am not tempted by the next generation based on feedback about the Android OS, application lag, battery life etc.

In my case for buying the 1Z two weeks ago, I preffer owning music over streaming; I've been collecting since march 1997, I only use streaming for research or looking up a song whenever I can identify it. I use YouTube music which i get for free with YouTube premium, I dont see my self ever streaming strictly, specially since I own well over 2,200 albums, so 1ZM1 it is.

This guy gets it. This is exactly how streaming should be used

I’m happy for the others in that thread that enjoy it. Different case scenarios. I guess my choice of wording is just more gentle. Then again, that’s only how I feel
Gentle I'm not, sometimes you just need to speak straight and from the heart. Is what it is....

Exactly; this is what I do. Palo Nutini vinyl transcoded to 24/96 superb

I'm about to start a 16 hour road trip. I can easily cover this with no need to stream. I use the web for music discovery, not waste money on subscriptions that are frequently inferior in SQ

in order to avoid over-charging the 1z, which cables are you guys using to connect it via the rear of the TAZ.

Either use the full Sony dock or there is a WMport to standard usb adaptor if you can find it (can’t remember the model name)

When I connect the WM1Z to the TAZ via the Walkman port and it reaches full charge, it then stops charging. No trickle charging that I can detect either. So as long as it's kept connected, battery seems safe. I wonder if that's how Sony designed it. Whereas connecting via the rear USB means you're always having to manage the WM1Z's charge. I personally think if Sony designed the WM1Z to connect to the TAZ via the side port, that's how it should be done.
