Always wanted a 1A (1Z too heavy and expensive) but went for the ZX300 mainly for size which I thought sounded slightly muddy/congested, and then the ZX507 which is a clear step up to me. Interested to hear how the new 1AM2 will sound having a few updated components from the original.
I paid $880 new for my WM1A in August of 2020. I haven't regretted it for one instant (a mere 868 hours of listening since then, for an average of about 90 minutes per day, and $1.65 per day). It easily runs every headphone I've tried, sounds amazing, has never locked up, has never run out of battery (I've only ever depleted one bar on the meter), holds a terabyte of music... it just feels and behaves like a high performance luxury product with supreme build quality. Here's hoping they keep it up with the mark twos. Every indications seems to be that they will.
I feel blessed to have picked up a fairly-mint WM1A unit with a decent 3rd party case for $600 USD plus tax/shipping (so $676 USD all in)… it has about 550-600 hours showing in the unit info, and sounds absolutely amazing even with stock FW (yes, I’ll definitely play with that later!).
What are they going for new now (if you can find one in stock)? I haven’t seen any under $1,000 USD but haven’t searched extensively.
the 1ZM2 is better, the bigger caps alone are reason enough to get a M2. If you are buying the last of the M1 it is a novelty and to continue living in the period from which we are departing.
Yeah as someone with the WM1A and ZX507, I'm tempted to get the 1ZM2 but it might not make as much sense as just sending in my WM1A for a mod/upgrade when the battery starts to go. My ZX507 occasionally crashes and I rarely stream, and when I do it's not always a stable experience either. It's weird because the 1AM2 is apparently a big jump up from the 1A, and the 1ZM2 is a slight upgrade over the 1AM2 (diminishing returns hitting hard here). I sort of want to ball out and experience a true TOTL from Sony, maybe the way the grounding of the copper chassis is implemented actually makes a difference on the new ones...

My music is all offline and I just made the move from the 1A to the 1Z so I would say it is sensible for the right person.
If Tidal/Mora Qualitas/Amazon Music HD/Qobuz etc is impt to you, please start saving up, the new one will be available in end March for most of the world.
