The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!
Feb 11, 2022 at 9:23 PM Post #3,331 of 5,335
I'm looking forward to getting my 1TB microSD card this week. Previously I've just made the jump up through each step 200 > 256 > 400 > 512, and this is a big storage size up. Are there any tips for an efficient file tagging system for the sake of the Walkman's rebuilds? eg. is it better to have each track tagged with album art or just have 1 folder art. Does it not really make a difference? Now would be a good time for me to make any changes before I start to add a lot more music.
I embed art in each file. I use artist, album, track name, track #, composer, genre, and year.

Digital is just fine when you have a NW-WM1Z. It turns it into vinyl.

I still collects vinyl but didn't listen to it as much after I bought WM1A. More of a collection plus most newly released records came with digital download thus I'll be adding both to my physical and digital collection when I buy it. I'm ok with digital but not with streaming. When I stream I'm obsessed with adding/discovering as much music as possible without really listening to the releases. With 1A available, I don't bother as much to stream as before but I still buys music as much as before.

With that being said, a good article on streaming for some who cares :

I use a 1tb in my WM1A. In my experience, MP3Tag is the way to go, and it attaches album art to every track you associate it with. I'm pretty sure that if you just put a JPG in the folder it won't be associated with the track at all. Also, FYI, the JPG files need to be saved as "baseline" and not "progressive." If they're the latter, they won't show up (unless you use Mr Walkman custom firmware).

Thanks for everyone's input.
I've been fairly good with keeping my tags in order using Tagscanner which has a simple recompress feature saving as baseline easily.
I have always just tagged each track/album with album art but there was a time it auto saved a folder image to the folder as well. Now with an abundance of space I can be less frugal and I am going to be exponentially increasing my music library I just thought I'd check now in case there were some details of tagging that may be more efficient helping with general file reading and particularly rebuilds.

That’s exactly what I do as well using mp3tag though just putting one jpg in each folder named the same as the folder works just as well as embedding the jpg in each track

Good to know! It may be that the progressive issue led me to believe a folder jpg didn't work.

Hi everyone, I would like to introduce myself as a former owner of a WM1A who just bought the last brand new WM1Z in my country. I have been active in the Walkman 2022 thread and I hope all of you here will welcome me as well! :)
So I went out to try the new Walkman hoping that I'll pre-order the new NW-WM1AM2 but the experience was a bit underwhelming so I'm holding back for now until I can decide later.
I found out later when I passed by Sony store that there's 1 BINB set of WM1A there so I followed @dennarwhal and bought the last WM1A in Singapore Sony store today. Vintage gear lover gang united?
It's quite new I'm surprised: made in Malaysia in Aug 2021

Congratulations! It’s out of stock and discontinued in Singapore one day after the launch of the mark 2’s.

Congrats on your new purchase. Was also considering whether to hoot the wm1a. Guess no need to think anymore. 😅

Thank you. I think it is really difficult to not be happy with these lovely bois, unless one set some strange expectation like driving full size cans like HD800s on the train 🤷
To me personally the Walkmans are worth the original price, let alone the dropped price now that the mark 2 are released.

Honestly, it’s the 2 best audio purchases I’ve ever made!

paid 750 euros for my mint/like new wm1a back in 2017 , after 7000-8000 hours of use , i feel like this was money best spent ever

i mean , i paid like 0.10 euros for every hour of music , nothing in this world gives you 1 hour of fun for just 0.10 euros

curious if i should buy a 2ns wm1a as a safety measure/backup
