Well, I am still locked out of my safe. A month without DAPs or headphones. The locksmith is coming on October 4th.

That sucks. Not sure how you are managing without music. 😖

Hi folks,

after trying in one of local electronics shops in person I have to confirm unfortunately that "Satechi R2 Bluetooth Multimedia Remote Control" does not work with SONY NW-ZX300.
Thus it will most probably not work with other SONY DAPs based on their own OS either.
What a pity as otherwise this Satechi RC looks very well build- and materialwise.

I did a rough battery test on my 10 month old 1Z and got 24 hours playing mostly FLAC, maybe 10 hours MP3 (low volume 35) and it was still on my last bar before flashing. My listening hours are usually very low each week but I'm always surprised how my second and third bar can drop in 1-2 days, I dont know what nibbles away at it significantly in standby?

I realised I never got around to burning in the 3.5mm side, as I would one day like to get around to using 3.5mm > RCA input of my TA-ZH1ES for a different experience with the tunings, regions and firmwares.
I don't like adapters but I am more into the preservation of the MMCX connectors of my secondhand IER-Z1R so got one of these:

The 2. and 3. bar each only equates to 1/6 while the 1. and 4. bar each equates to 2/6 so the 4 bars are not equal.

The 1Z has deeper more detailed bass and and a larger soundstage. This is running both with the same configuration of MrWalkman's firmware J3, Plus v2, 1Z.

i had the a1 and have the 1z and i can acknowledge: you can hear better 1) acoustics, punch, imaging, vocal, and the before mentioned soundstage.

before i switched from a1 to az, i had 1 month of overlap when comparing both.

Going beyond the firmwares there is a factor of the hardware components that seem to take it to another level that from the perspective of an owner could be considered often downplayed.
I'm not good at pinpointing aspects precisely, but in my simplistic terms I found another deeper layer of bass that was matched on the treble end. My perception of the 1A was a very wide but flat sound stage whereas I get a slightly narrower but deeper experience on my 1Z.
Diminishing returns are always brought up in the 1A/1Z comparisons - I got a good price for my new 1A, and a satisfying one when selling, and a store was doing a sale when the new M2 models were due for release so I paid close to half of what the original pricing was.
I could still be a happy man with the 1A, but music and how I hear it is important to me and over the years I have moved on and up through the tiers of Sony gear and gotten maximum value from each of those steps.
I have a long history with Sony, but their move to Android has added extra value to this classic Walkman range and owning the Signature range gold brick is something special for me.
