The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!

He frequently apologizes for not replying when we message, I think he is a busy man and also active on many HeadFi threads. As he had owned the DMP, 1Z and several of the TOTL daps, and then been able to compare to a 1Z again I give value to his opinion but I suppose it is hard to give a percentage. Also a dap compared to such a high end higher powered component like the DMP is likely to only be a step closer, but the diminishing returns factor and the proof of Mr Walkmans firmware achievements with the original Walkmans may also close that gap. Can you not compare the DMP and 1ZM2 or your 1Z at e earphone? I love my TA-ZH1ES but don't get to listen to it much as my portable 1Z, depending on your use might a secondhand 1ZM2 be a step up from your 1Z with the bonus of streaming at half the price of a secondhand DMP?
Otherwise you've always wanted a DMP, you could just bite the bullet and treat yourself. They should hold their value if you change your mind, enjoy it for a while and truly see if you get value out of it, if not sell it and go for the next step down (1ZM2?).
I haven’t listened to the 1Z M2 because of its android interface. I may take a gander, but I already have the NW-A105. So, my interest in streaming is limited. I understand it can be a stand alone player, but this one just feels more special to me.

I still stand by that the DMP does offer more power which I know increases soundstage and all, but even nc8000 shared the same feelings that for the price, we were perhaps expecting more.

I want the DMP, but it’s hard for me to look at it as more than $3,000. It would be a great heirloom with the TA. I have the budget to get it for retail, but after understanding my listening habits with the 1Z and TA, I don’t feel I would use it for as many scenarios. The TA would almost feel like it would be replaced (even tho it won’t be)

I recently bought the Sundara and HD599 SE to get the open back experience. That is definitely different and I’m glad I bought them. The MDR-Z1R is still the best, but now I see what others mean that you can do a lot more for that money

We all have our unicorns, next step up etc but as much as you want one you seem to talk yourself out of having one having demoed several times. As it is such a large spend and a diminishing return for you maybe just let it go and focus your funds on other areas like open backs etc where you will often achieve a better return. Sure the DMP would really be an impressive special item to own but if you don't actually get the value out of it it may not bring you the joy of owning.
I think the Sony 'Signature' gear you already own will be highly regarded and sought after in the future.
No judgement, just an external opinion.

I have now seen a few of the new Walkmans up for sale, I'm not following those threads so was curious to what might be the reason? Android OS issues? Preferring their other android daps? Not being powerful enough? Has anyone said they're going back to their trusty old 1A/1Z? If it wasn't for Damz87 loving his I might have thought Sony's late to the table offering might have been a miss.
Very profound observation. I’m a happy user of OG WM1A and I’m not sure if MK2 is a significant upgrade, some people even say the android implementation is rather poor. I also had ZX300 in the past and when I tried the ZX507, I did not find it to be a significant upgrade either. So yeah, looks like the delta between price vs performance seems to have increased with the new 1A/1Z MK2 and they aren’t as VFM or versatile

Constructive feedback like this is always appreciated. Good point. Thinking about it does nothing. Gaming and music are wear my passions lie. And language study

Welcome here again! There should be a sticker on the left side of your device if your device is from the E region. Additionally, it will be written above the barcode when it was produced.

As mentioned, mine was produced in 2019 May with serial number 505026. I don't think you have to worry. Your unit was probably produced in 2020.

I see, the left side of my 1Z has a completely different sticker, it doesn't show any info; any idea what BC means?

My 1Z is # 5063173 manufactured in 2020-11, so yours is probably early to mid 2020?

Btw, what stand is your WM1Z standing on? Looks nice.

Lovely setup mate!! I like the stand mount for 1Z, any link for that please? Also, curious what is the cable that’s running out of the 1Z, looks different than the stock cable somehow (or I could be wrong)

We're all here for our enjoyment of music.
The level of gear we've acquired gives us a satisfaction or hopefully utter pleasure in hearing our music. But, as good as our music sounds some tracks just sound awesome and really hit the sweet spot. I'm not just talking about your favourite song sounding the best you've heard it, but those recordings that really stand out, maybe for staging or separation or hitting certain frequencies in a way that makes you smile.
Feel free to share the tracks that hit the sweet spot for you.
I thought this might be a good way to expand our music tastes and find something new or different and keep the thread a bit more active.
Some of mine are:

** Disclaimer: my ears via WM1Z > IER-Z1R but these tracks even made my Samsung S10 > Blon-01 shine.
Some songs are hi-res and may appear as a different recorded version on other albums/YouTube.
Some tracks may take until half way through before another instrument or layer of sound comes in.
My tastes are very wide and varied but electronic sounds so darn good, will share some other tracks later :metal:
Screenshots are from my phone.

Over to you......
