The Beyerdynamic Tesla DT 1350 Impressions thread

Has anyone compared the Custom Street to these? Thinking of adding the Street to my 5 year old DT1350. Perhaps it may be possible to take out the tesla drivers and put them into the Street?

I am sure you could. The 1350 drivers pop right out.

I will issue a warning for anyone working on the 1350's though. Those magnets are strong enough to grab the soldering iron when you get it near the terminal. Be cautious or you can easily find the hot tip going into the driver housing.

Anyone who has heard both the t51p and 1350, are they different sounding enough to justify owning both?

I just got a pair of the t51s and like them but on some tracks the bass is too boomy.

I have both, but haven't used either one recently. The 1350 bass in general seems a bit tighter to me, and overall the sound is a bit cooler. The t51 is more comfortable on my ears, though.

I do own both and while the T51p is more comfortable due to the much softer pads and less clamping force I much prefer the DT1350 due to its cleaner voicing (less warm, less midbass) and single-sided cable entry. I don't use the split headband feature or the rotating cups, but that might come in handy for professional use.

Are the sonic differences that big?

They are there and noticable, but what is big? Its not that one is perfect and the other is crap, just different voicings for different primary target audiences.

So it sounds like it could be worth owning both if you like both presentations.

Yes, if one wants two on-ears that are in a similar ballpark qualitywise. Plus there's a T51i version with an inline remote, which could be a nice addition vs. the DT1350 that offers no such option.

If the t50p were included in the comparison....

Sorry, I never owned, not even heard the T50p. At that time I opted for the DT1350, mainly because of the single-sided cable entry. I found it to sound so good that I never felt compelled to try the T50p.

You definitely made the right decision by avoiding the t50p.
I unfortunately bought it on vacation as an impulse buy.

I tried to like it but....

I think so too after reading about others experience with the T50p. It seems rather uneven... The T51 seems to have corrected all those faults though. It's just that I generally prefer less warm signatures. Not bright, but not warm either. Back to square one: what exactly is neutral
