The Beyerdynamic DT48 Arrives...

I just found out that Headroom does re-cabling....will have to call for a price. I also found a place that can do a re-cable for as low as $11/foot which would cost me about $66 plus the plug....definitely within my budget....BTG audio. Unfortunately, I have no experience with soldering and don't have the spare time to learn.

What do the terminals look like? If they're anything like the pair I used to own, it shouldn't be hard; it took longer to braid the cable for my DT48 than to actually do it.

Did you ever get a chance to try your DT48 with the SA-31. IMO, this is one combination which works very well!

BTW, what kind of tool do I need to open the DT48 cups? Is it a proprietary Beyer one? I presume I can turn the caps on the capsules over to allow the wires to hang down, rather than up into the headpad, with the text oriented correctly (I have a late 25 ohm DT48e).

I didn't unfortunately. The offer I got for my pair was too good to pass up. And these need a spanner screwdriver.

Thanks!

Would you happen to remember which size?

Mine actually used a flathead screw (they were from the second run in the 60's) instead of a spanner screw, so I don't know. Sorry!

It's double sided tape. If they're not too old you should be able to remove and reinstal them easily. If they don't glue again, you need just a bit of double sided tape and you're good to go.

Are those DT48 pads? They don't look to good... They should look like this.

DT48 are top of the line on clarity and detail. They also respond most effectively to EQ so... a chameleon in that regard. If you don't like them maybe it's best to let them find a new home. I remember when I got my first pair it took me about 2 weeks to reprogram my brain as they sound like no other headphones and the FR extremes being hard walled didn't help much.

It was only when I returned to other headphones that I realized how exceptional they are. Didn't take too long to get my second pair.  I now own DT48E and DT48A :)
As for the seal, it may take a bit to settle as it's the sweat and condensation build up inside the pads that does it. In August it takes only 1 minute to get there :)

Your pair seem to be a recent production on 25ohm, right? The coiled cable and headband are almost perfect - little used I imagine...

They are only 4 years old. They were almost brand new when I got them (1,5 years ago), the earpads were still very stiff and didnt get a good seal at first. It's the 200ohm version.

I bought them to try them out, and I found them really good. But they are a bit expensive to keep, since I've not been using them so much lately.

Been missing for some time, my last few notable purchases were AKG K500 paired with Diva Goya fitted with NOS Telefunken 1960 Cca.
The rare DT48 S with Kudelski inscribed instead of the usual and paired with Jan Meier's Corda Quickstep. For desktop I use the Meier Arietta.
adding Toxic cable's Silver White for my Sennheiser IE80.
