Just bought the ak240.
A very short listening impressions comparing the ak120 on my own opinion.
Using the uber 1plus2,listening some 16/44 wav and flac files.
 
For sonics, ak240 is quite similar to ak120, but with a more powerful and full sound with a bit more detailed. I can say that 240 is more 'clear' than 120. But I think the sound signiture of 240 is more 'classic' while 120 is 'pop'.
For treble, ak240 is smoother with less hissing.
For bass, ak240 is more clear and a bit more bouncy.
For vocals. ak240 is a bit backward than 120.
The background of 240 is darker than 120.
Ak240 obviously has a more powerful amp section than 120.
 
As it is just a very short review and the 240 is not fully run-in, maybe my feelings will change after listening to the ak240 longer.
Also, I not expereinced in hi-fi, so my opinion is not professional.
Lastly, I have to say sorry to my bad English as I am just a Chinese kid..

Congrats kid for your purchase, by the way you're English is more than fine and most of us are non professional, just some music lovers in pursuit of sound quality, or so I think.

I ordered mine from addicted to audio ( Australia) for $2999 AUD (~$2650 USD) ...expecting to receive it on the 3rd week of FEB...

Hopefully my JHA roxanne will ship around the same time..

Now I need to find someone who will make me a balance cable to bond the 2 then i am set. 

I will provide my subjective review when i get it..

Congrats!! I'm waiting for Roxanne as well and am DAP shopping too. How did you decide to pull the trigger ? Have you had a chance to trial it? What else are you using in comparison?

How does the balanced work? I mean, you only need that box on top with XLR cable connectors if you are using cans. Correct?

After listen to the 240 longer, I really find that 240 is much better than 120. The sound information and sonics has rise to a new level.
I am getting lazy to compare them as the 240 clearly is the winner when I start listening to it.
If ak120 is very good, ak240 would be VERY VERY VERY good.

A Chinese kid puts those audiophiles crying about AK240's price to shame.
 
Now the question is, can the one piece AK240 beat a AK120 line out to an external (good) amp in terms of SQ?

I don't see why not, as I am doing it now with my F807 with Neutron Player.

+1, this cheap price is insulting, we need a 5K DAP, can iRiver skip AK360 and proceed straight to AK480 costing 4800$?

I guess it depends on how "open" A&K Android implementation is...actually all the videos I've seen around so far focused on the music interface but none of them showed if you can actually close it and access Android itself... did those who already got one already try to install stuff from Google Play?  Anyways, that would open up nice possibilities to the A&K lineup. Still hard to justify the cost, but well...

mate, when AK240 costs 2.5K for me a question sounds as follows: a 2.5k DAP or a 12K pure triode state of the art amplifier and guess i am leaning to the second option. For me portable was a cheap way to indulge in changing and buying gear, but with 2.5k i can add a good front end DAC, a pair of nice bookshelf speakers and etc... and since my listen time for portable is only 10% you might guess what i will buy first

Couldn't agree more. My good triode gear sits in storage with no view of daylight for a number of years so for me the opposite end of the stick. Portable type is the only real choice since all of my music is headphones, and I enjoy fine audio quality. I want excellent "portable" and "music", each must be there.
