I think that little black matchbox thing on top is the balance phone out to single ended line out adapter. Please correct if i am wrong

If this is the case, then... Why make a "balance phone out to single ended line out adapter" rather than just taking the SE phone out ... if it can be configured as a "line-out" ? interesting !

as regards AK240 no matter how excellent this will be the pricing suggestion made this redundant for me. when AK gets into high end territory i have more options to pick excellent source and i can live with RWAK100 and 120S for portable. there is no point using AK as home source because for 2+k i can find much better options. IMHO AK made a mistake due to their greed. lets see what happens to AK240 sales. i hope Calyx M will become a revelation and will teach AK a lesson or... may be Naim will decide to teach AK a lesson by offering a portable DAP/DAC. we already seen Meridian and Chord entering this area.

i suppose AK240 pricing should push up sales of AK120 S-mod version
all i can tell most likely i will go for S-moded AK120 or just AK120 or.... Calyx M if its sound will be much better.
do not care about single card slot.

I think every other dap sounds like a bargain after this... But not for long i am afraid.. Everyone will try and mark up the price a bit higher with the excuse of "look at ak240 pricing and you complain my dap too expensive"

$2400 is really a bargain or even a steal compared to some cables $old for ten grands.

Wow, I am wondering how much better portable sound can go regarding sound quality, or frankly how much it really needs to. Twice the cost of an AK120? that must be some improvement! Like the difference between a analogue cassette and and a CD to command that sort of price. Well for me anyway. The trouble is that we have reached the point where sound quality need not go any further as we can now surpass our parameters of hearing with technology. We only have to look at these forums to see how subjective is our experience.
