The Astell & Kern AK240

Agree, so what we need now is a very good Transport/player, without DAC/AMP on board. Some sort of nano-Aurender :)

Chord Hugo is hardly portable. Transportable yes but you won't see anyone walking around with it in their pocket. What we need is a thin transport/player/DAC and no amp. That way we can pick the amp of our choosing and tweak the sound signature to our own liking using the amps. And it's pretty much a guarantee that any amp we combine with it will be better than whatever amp they try and cram into any DAP.

Well, I don't really need something to walk with in my pocket.  I just need transportable to have it in the plane/train/office/WeeKend

Sometimes, I dream of an iPAD Mini with 512 Gb of storage, a 24bits/192kHz out through ToshLink and USB out

So if they are setting a trend I would say that next there will be an AK480 shaped like a deformed toilet bowl from a Dali painting and costing 4.8k. I think this is the first brand to base product names on price...AK120 at 1.2k, AK240 at 2.4k etc.

you forgot the AK360 Dali-spec... it rotates on the desk and drips... quite surreal at night under candlelight so I'm informed.

I'd wish the ipad mini played FLAC. And was running android. And running Sony's new player on the ZX1.

Dum da rum dum...

If the ak240 beats the likes of cypher labs(separates) it might be worth a look..if it doesn't, it will sell to the minority who just want the latest player and not to the majority who want the best possible portable sound..for me, it would have to blow everything else away to justify the price!

i wish more sane price policy from AK, because for 2.4k i can buy damn good sources or all in one Naim Unity or similar which will sound for sure better than AK of any marking. i am afraid ak240 becomes redundant for me automatically, better ak120 with S mod and good amp.

LoL, design wise i believe anyone who made this for iRiver is working for competition because ak240 design will scare even most mentally stable buyers :D

I agree, but, there's really not that many mentally-stable buyers, here on Head-Fi (at least, not according to their other halves!)

after all, there is no official price announcement from AK? 2400$ is only an assumption, right?

No, it's been precisely calculated; look:

AK 240 plus a zero = 2400

You can't get any more scientific than that!
