I was listening to AK120 playing some dsd album the whole day. I'm very impressed! Too bad the battery burns twice as fast as playing pcm track.. I think I only got around 5-6 hours with almost full charge. I really wish it can go to 8-9 hours, it would be a perfect companion during travel and office hours.

What is the battery life with flac/wav? A list mixed with 16 / 24 bit, average.

Yeah, very decent battery life for a dual dac player. I think the battery is huge. It does take a while to charge with 1A adapter.

Incidentally I also compared Hotel California on dff vs HDtracks 24bit flac on ak120 and to me the difference is significant. The different is so stark I can tell them apart within 5 seconds of any part of the track.

I do agree not all dff files would be superior as it is just a format and container afterall. I would also believe a 24bit flac or wav downsampled from a dff file won't sound that different. But with this particular track the different is huge.

You also have to keep in mind most 24/192 and 24/96 would actually come from Vinyl rips in general compared to online purchases. In some respects on certain tracks I still do find 24/192 and 24/96 to be better than the DSD counterparts but that depends on the mastering and the how the track was ripped.

Just got a DSD file of Hotel California and loaded it onto the AK120, I already have a CD Rip in ALAC at 16/44 loaded...so a back to back comparison shows that the DSD version is far superior. It's beyond a subtle difference, in every sense it's better. Clarity of sound, great separation of instruments and vocals is way beyond the Cd rip.very impressed.:)

Lee,

Could you please tell us from where you downloaded the DSD file of Hotel California ?  I'm interested to get one also.

thanks

Yes, mine as well, about 5-6 hours. I post something about it in the previous page.

When playing DSD I don't get very much battery life out of it. :p Then again what can you expect? I'd say maybe 5 hours or so with DSD. My unit gets extremely hot as well.

You could always get a little auxiliary battery with USB output.
