granted, I do find my rmbp to sound pretty damn good but I expected a sizable leap in quality considering all the feedback that I've read here. And yes I did playback the 24bit files on both the rmbp and ak120.

Cydonia, if my dedicated CD player sounds much better than portable DAP would you suggest me carry this around instead of DAP?

mind this i agree, my mac mini dedicated for playback sounds great with audiorvana plus or pure music soft, still this does not and cannot replace DAP. So even If AK sounds only as good it would be a buy for me. Just to make my point a bit more clear.

frankly speaking i cannot support or reject your claim since my mac mini is connected to Metrum DAC and big front end so no comparison. still i doubt mac alone would beat AK sound wise, sorry something does come up since Mac is computer so current might not be clean enough while DAP uses battery which is much better choice technically speaking IMHO.

Unfortunately, no. I am using fit ear togo 334 and listening to https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HD666666666666 going back and forth between my rmbp and a k120 again, I am finding the a k120 to be a tad warmer no discernible change other than that. Really disappointed with this. I'll have to eat the 15% restocking fee and return it.

Why not try update the firmware to 1.21 if you intend on returning it anyways? Maybe that will bring it more to your liking.

Just to update you all guys.
My faulty AK120 been sent back and they promised to give me a new unit, by Saturday.
Let's hope it will come with 1.00 firmware and I will update to the 1.21 or the one after when I feel like it.
Once again thank you all for the kind support and all the advice, especially to those who contacted me by PM regarding my problem.
Regards,
Levi

Evening all.

Just wondering if anyone here uses Linux, specifically Ubuntu?

I have a small laptop I was planning to use purely for music that has Ubuntu on it and I was hoping to use my AK120 as a USB DAC with it. Just wondering if anyone had had any joy doing so?

I haven't had the pleasure of connecting the AK120 as a USB DAC to a Linux machine, but as long as you can set the audio output device as the AK120, I don't think you should have trouble using the AK120 as a USB DAC to your Ubuntu machine.
