In general, buying audiophile stuff here in Europe is really painful... Americans really don't have a clue how fortunate they are when they can easily demo almost everything for free and still have the lowest prices in the world.

In my experience, east Asia has been the best for the demo'ing experience whereas CONUS has been the best for the buy-sell market (especially second-hand).

I honestly don't think mid-fi is worth the money, especially when the prices are inflated (e.g. Sennheiser HD 6X0, AKG K702-65th). The worthwhile (and worth$) mid-fi is sub-$200 as in second-hand/refurbished AKGs and Beyerdynamics, and recently a couple of Audio Technicas too.

I'm going to stick my head out and say that I like the bass levels on the 70x series. I realize I'm in the minority, since I find loud bass rather unpleasant. The thing is, it's accurate bass, and since a lot off songs are bass-heavy anyways, it balances out, allowing for a rather comfortable level. It's actually perfect for me.

The price has gone up since I got the K702, though. For the $260 I paid, I'd say it was worth it.

+1

Same here, I paid 248USD for K702 in 2009 @ Uniquesquared. I will skip K712 PRO and will get HD800 instead.

MSRP 670,- Euro for K712 PRO must be a joke.

Lolwhat? I could get TH600s or refurb T1s for that money...

It's compensated by the fact that there are tons of past decades' flagships from e.g. AKG, Sennheiser and Beyer floating around in Europe. Costs tons to ship them to the US, plus the bank transfer hassle.

Yea, it's not correct. Delamar.de has a video interview and article about them, listed as €469 including VAT. If VAT is 20%, that's €390 or $510 without it. Approximately, although I think this might have already been posted.

I completely agree about the bass.

I got my K701 used for half of what you did.

Either way $510 is way to much for K702's with a bass boost. Or even $499. Anything over $399 is going to be a very hard sell.

Thanks,

size]

I wasn't talking about the HD650, HD600 or any of the DT line. I think they're all great headphones.

I was talking about these other manufacturers releasing totally new headphones. AKG puts a different color plastic on the K701 and says 'voila! new headphone'. Except in german, so they probably aren't saying 'voila'

Actually they do tune their different models. They use different materials in housings and pads anong other things. Compare that to MrSpeakers who charge more than 200 dollars for modifying Fostex headphones.

This is a great hobby and I'm a big fan of healthy discussions. There are strong opinions on both sides of the fence with the K712 Pro. It's important to keep it in perspective, assume good faith, and understand that all of it, no matter how logical or illogical it is, is all hearsay, rumors, and assumptions until we can finally put them on our skulls and do some first hand comparisons. Although I did just purchase the Annie (due to those great price drops), I'm very excited to get people's personal impressions on the K712 Pro. Maybe it will be exactly the same and maybe it will be something different. Either way, it seems the anticipation is killing all of us.

To me, looks like a re-themed AKG with same sound sig as Anniversary? Even though AKG does explicitly say that Anniversaries have +3db bass over the stock k702, it could be.

I'm gonna buy some. I love the K7XX's! I recently sold my K701's to finance an upgrade, think I'll wait for these to come out now.
