The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread

There is significantly more bass to mids fullness with K712 Pro in comparison to Q701... Not because K712 Pro are bass heavy but because Q701 are upper mids to treble happier which makes them sound simply brighter and leaner in bass. There is no way Q701 offer the same amount of bass (talking about regular unmodified Q701). Q701 have less bass than HD800 and HD800 have less bass than K712 Pro, subjectively.

My Q701s don't sound bright, I don't wish for less treble.

hi, i received mine yesterday. after i changed the cable the second time the xlr input came out and one of the 3 thin cables broke. today i already sent it back. i hope i get a new pair fast because comfort and soundqualitywise this headphone is superb. im 60km away from vienna so i think it should be no problem. i hope akg is aware of this connectorproblem. :frowning2: (number was 00098)

so guys, i received my new pairs (002290). the connecter is hard to pull out. im afraid that the same thing happens again :)

I am afraid this is quite normal... All the headphones I've come across with detachable cables are a bit problematic here - be it Sennheiser, AKG, Audeze etc. You just have to careful and dont manipulate with the connectors on a daily basis.

I was really concern about the connector on my pair as well..just avoid ejecting it... There's no reason to anyway unless you planning to transport it from your home to office then come back etc.

I just purchased my pair of K712s about two weeks ago.

I'm now in search of a proper way to power these babies!

As of today, I have just integrated sound from my computers motherboard. I would like to throw some more power to them to unveil what AKG has to offer.

What would be a good choice for me at ~$200,~$400, and ~$600? I mostly game, listen to music, occasionally mix my own house mixes, and watch films.

Are you wanting a DAC/Amp combo, or just the amplifier?

Well what is generally the better option - the DAC+Amp?

If you have no plans to upgrade one or the other in the future the DAC/Amp combo can be a good option.  In your price range I'd recommend an Audio-GD combo unit such as the following:

http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/Compass%202/Compass2EN.htm
http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/NFB1033/NFB10.33EN.htm

Also the Schiit Magni/Modi is an excellent stack for about $200, even more interesting would be Vali/Modi when the Vali goes for sale.

Also, any idea on a release date on the Vali?

I have heard that the Audio-GD 15.32 is a great combo unit for a little bit more money. How do you feel that compares to the Compass and the 1033?

The 15.32 is actually a little lower on their food chain.  Smaller power supplies and such but cheaper and more compact.  Their nomenclature can be a bit confusing.  The Compass is probably the most flexible but the 10.33 probably has the most grunt in driving headphones like the K712.

I've heard that the Magni/Modi stack isn't great for certain headphones depending on bass, soundstage, etc...Would you consider the K712 to be one of these based on the large soundstage?

I would personally have no worries about pairing K712 Pro with almost anything... They are really balanced headphones. Maybe avoid using a tube amplifier with tubes emphasising mids to upper mids :)

I've used the Magni with the K702 65th and it paired quite well.  The biggest problem with the Magni is the high gain so more sensitive headphones like Audio Technicas don't give you much play on the knob.

I always found the AKG K701 to be the coolest looking headphone, and same can be said about the annies and K712.

But today, I decided to put on my annies for fun, and saw myself in the mirror for the first time with the headphones... Oh god, I look so dorky ahh. Even worse than with my HD800 and HE6's.

Maybe my weird face is incompatible
