New AKG's are not AKG's

More whining about the "good ol' days"... probably coming from someone who hasn't heard any of the AKG headphones since the K500 was released...

Or better yet, a K702 at a meet..for about 10 seconds.

As of the present, all brand new AKGs (even the K550) are manufactured in China except for the Q/K70x and the K3003, but that's an iem.

If the K550 are made in China, hopefully the low manufacturing costs that will help drive the K550's price down.
Maybe there will be a decent price drop in Oct-Nov.

AKG ear pad inserts.
I was just installing velour ear pads on my K240m monitor 600-Ohm when I noticed the ear pad inserts are starting to crumble on the side that faces the diaphragm.
It's $24 to mail order replacements, someone know a place that is cheaper to order from, or good material to cut replacements from?

Edit, never mind, found another place and only paid $14.78.

I don't think there exists any fan sites for headphone manufacturers. if there is they are propably so small that nobody has ever heard of them.

head-fi seems to be the biggest community website for audio related stuff.

Anyone know any dedicated (fan) website for the AKG headphone?

I could not find any fan sites dedicated to a full range of AKG headphones, one of the reasons I started this thread.

I think there is an appreciation thread for almost every headphone AKG has produced, here on head-fi. I've owned the K601, K702, K271, K240M and now own the K400, K500, K240DF, and K241. There's a hardcore group of us that think the company has strayed from the former glory days where they were true innovators and pioneers of headphone design to their current day status of riding the same trends as many other brands and just delivering what the people think it is they want. Be it good or bad the culture and prioreties of AKG under Harmon Kardon has certainly changed.
