Hey! no praise masquerading as bashing. That's cheating.

I hate the magical pixies that live inside my sennheisers. I think they're responsible for the veil. And the nightmares.

I am with you here. I couldn't get past the rolled off highs or the bloated bass, but the worst thing was the soupy midrange. It was like having playdough strapped to your ears.

Another hate of mine is the HD650. It reminds me of an English period piece - think Sense and Sensibilty or another long costume drama where the emotion is always right below the surface and never rises.

I kept wanting to scream - where is the emotion! Wait, maybe the problem was I didn't break it in for 500 hours, recable, or pefectly match my system.

All these imho of course.

Bring on the hatred!

edit: spelling

? I actually think Cello sounds great with MS2.

I really enjoy Yo Yo Ma's cello from Soul of The Tango CD. To me nothing's wrong at all with Cello or bass.

Bass is not boomy...
To me, boomy bass is serious flaw. You sure you're not exaggerating?

Because I actually think that the MS2 bass is tight and punchy.

Well, maybe different ears.

That's one of my hates too. Technically it's great, but in terms of artistics and communicating emotion it was like the ice queen of headphones.

AT-A900 To this day I'm still wondering what all the hype was about. It sucked up acoustic guitar and female vocals to an extent which I've yet to hear equaled. Senn 580 killers my ass.

Senn 590 Duh, let's take the Senn sound, bump up the highs real good, and maybe it'll compete with Grados for fun. Brutal grating highs and a completely unbalanced sound overall, the suck was bad.

pretty funny though....

seems like ive bought the worse headphones for a noob

first bought sennheiser hd497's... they were OK but the cord shorted on it so a new 1 ran for $18... after the speakers gave out on it *rolls eyes* i bought Bose Triports... they seemed a pretty good pair compaired to the 497's... mind u im not an audiophile dude... hehe anyways 2 days after using them the band snaps on the left side... after wrapping tape around the left side the right side gave out... so i said SCREW THIS!!!! and i got myself some HD590's... recieved them about 2 days ago and i need to break them in and all... also waiting on my amp to arrive.... been over a week now

px100 and md33 - i don't get why everyone loves these two so much. dark sounding with bloated uncontrolled bass. a little treble would be great but these two don't have it.

all grados that i own (sr225, ms2) - what's up with the construction? for all the money that i've paid, i'd expect something that was a lot more comfortable. i love the way they sound but ouch...

this damn hobby keeps making me blow money on headphones that i shouldn't be buying. why can't someone just make the perfect headphone so that i won't have to keep spending money on new ones?

I compared my MS-2s to Bose Quiet Comfort 2 and found nothing of the sort--the Bose phones did have boomy and unnatural bass, but my MS-2s were nothing like that.

Heh, that was the exact CD I was thinking when I mentioned MS2s' bass. Yea, I'm definately exaggerating (kind of in a "get it out of your system" way). It's just a personal preference. I shun bass in general. I think the MS-* are unbeatable for pop and rock (and recently heard them w/ techno/electronic, perfect match).

Alessandro bass sure has punch. With cello solos however, I miss the distinct wood character or reverb (?) it's probably different ears. One thing that surprised me at a recent meet is that everyone had very different preferences. What I thought were boomy bass, others loved it. My perfect treble and mids were shrill and grating to another.

I can't stand any of the Grado's. Sorry guys, but I'm just not a fan of the forward, punchiness that they have, I get way too fatigued with them way too fast.

akg k501
heard at a meet using an sr71 and a high end source: shrill.

at another meet the beyer dt880: piercing treble, icy unpleasant sound. similar the dt931.

some stax in-ear things at a meet. am radio time.

he90
plugged into an amp eric had at a meet, smooth, somewhat furry sound and the headstage was like listening to mono.

various cheap and unmentionable cans over the years...
