With all the headphone appreciation threads, I feel there's too much love. Let's hear your hatred for forum-favorites but were too oppressed to speak out!
biggrin.gif

I’ll start.
HD580s, 600s. Good for vocals but how can people possibly recommend them for classical music? They lose so much treble with strings it’s not even worth listening. Different cable, bare drivers w/o foam? Not enough difference for my ears.

MS-1, 2. Awesome for rock, but horrible for cello or bass guitar solos. The bass is akin to a Bose system, boomy and unnatural.

All these imho of course.

Bring on the hatred!

Alessandros horrible for bass guitar?

Well, if you like bass guitar, surely you can appreciate tool on alessandro ms2, if you haven't heard them or comparable groups, then you owe it to yourself.

Making generalization is a poor practice, especially if your weak leak isn't the headphones, but perhaps something else? You should hear hd650's with a fully broken in silver dragon, out of a top notch source, and great amplifer. They aren't headphones for the weak in wallet, they demand only the best. Perhaps the problem was your HD-6XX headphones were malnourished in those areas?

I hate hate hate the Qualia 010. Especially since it teases you with flashes of brilliance coupled with continual frustration. How's that for a stinker?

CD3K had some kind of weird echoey reverb cup thing happening, and not enough bass for me.

AKG K340 was too power greedy for my Solo. No can disses my Solo and gets away with it! Put the AKG K4 in here too, just a darn power greedy can that no portable rig can tame yet imho.

HD201 had mids that were scooped out worse than an unmodded DT770. Without the benefit of a meaty bass and sparkly highs. All around thin and weak presentation, especially for a sealed can imho.

Where the heck is the bass with the ATH-CM3? Pretty, but also pretty bass-light.

Sony V-Crap. V7506 wasn't sooooo bad.

Grado SR325 old school silver cup screechfests. My ears are still bleeding.

Bose Triports. Great for $50.

ALL IEMs. They freak me out, they remind me of that sand worm in The Wrath of Khan that made folks into mindless zombies by crawling into your ear and lodging into the brainz. RAWR!

I better stop before I get on a roll. These kinds of threads are bad for my blood pressure.

Just a few experiences - I probably should have given these cans more listening time before I sold them, but this is pretty much the general feeling I got from them with the basic setups that I had:

SR60s were too detailed for my ears to listen to for very long =(. Pretty much closed my doors to Grado cans...I think

DT250-80 the "portable rockers" didn't have enough treble extension. IMO music didn't seem detailed and engaging, even though there wasn't really a recessed midrange. Should have gone for the 250-250s, but was doubtful I could drive them very well.

AKG K240S "groovalizers" I only gave 5 minutes of listening time to after receiving, hah. The mids seemed to smother my ears. PA2 cleaned up the bass a little, but the mids just didn't seem very clean (it's hard to explain - I'm probably just more of a neutral/analytical can guy). Wow did this close yet another door, and this time on the AKG (but i sort of like the K26...)?

I'll be the first to say it:

Grado SR-60/SR-80 - Sorry, once I clean the blood out of my ears maybe I'll be able to find a pair of phones that isn't so freaking bright.

And the HD580/600 are designed to be wonderfully balanced phones, not "Super In-your-face-treble+bass" phones like some other phones.

And that should somehow make a difference? This thread may end up having some actual value, in the form of criticism of different cans, but the spirit it was founded with is something I could do without...

This guy/gal's been here for nearly 3 years, posted 11 times, and this was the best thing he/she could come up with for #12, that's all I'm saying...

OP used smiley happy and smiley devil face. No worries, I think the intent on "hatred" was sort of a joke

.

I also agree that this thread can become very useful. Nice to hear the same person's opinions on different cans in the same post.
