I compared M40x and Pro82, I would not say that Takstar plays much better, they play approximately at the same level, the difference in sound is only that M40x has a more detached and boring monitor sound, and Takstar has more fun and musical sound.
I also compared the Pro 82 and Shure SRH440. Shure has a more natural sounding timbres and a more adult sound, but they are inferior to a Pro 82 in terms of bass.

I enjoyed the M40X but agreed that the sound is too monitoring as you say.

Somehow, the details retrieval and imaging seems to be way better on the Pro 82. They are only on par in terms of soundstage's width, but the Pro 82 still hits a little deeper with better instruments separation. IMO, the only way M40X could be on par is to get a pad mod.

I got speakers to replace my defective takstar. installed them. with the left speaker a little more bass as it was with the original speakers. I think this is due to the fact that the cable is attached to the left speaker. the speakers themselves not bad, but the sound of the m40x is of higher quality. The original Tarkstar speakers sounded better, but one speaker was defective with a bass rattling. I can not recommend these replacement speakers, the sound quality is worse.
Also one speaker came in a damaged, dented band.

You shall do the comparison with another pair of Pro 82 (preferably a V2 that doesn't have any issue) and I highly doubt that you will still give an edge to the M40X.

SMSL Idea has a much better DAC inside. Even without O2, Idea sounds great with Pro 82 - but O2 does bring out more details and better defined bass.

People had mixed success with these BoomPro knockoffs.
Proper USB mic would be the best choice.

IMO it is only decent at best for this purpose and there are far better options with all kind of surround DSP, 7.1 channels etc for gaming, in the same way that these gaming headsets surely won't have what the Pro 82 has to offer for music playback.

Pro 82 has great imaging, which is super important for games.
Solid bass response makes for fun explosions.
Super comfortable for long gaming sessions too.
