So it looks like there has been a redesign (at least on the outside). I have blown fuses two more times on the previous version and the obvious question is whether there was a design flaw in the version I have. Could Fiio comment on this?

Dear friend,

Are there any certain operation or condition when the fuse was blown?
The old and new versions of the PL50 have exactly the same functions and configurations. The main differences are the appearance design.

Best regards

The most recent time a fuse blew was when I left the PL50 on after turning off the R7. It was on for some days before I realized it had blown.

Dear friend,

We have reported to the engineer to check about that as well.

Best regards

My unit stopped working today. It came with an extra fuse so I guess I'll try that first assuming I'm able to figure out how to open the lid.

That wasn't too bad. Put in the new fuse and now working once again.

@FiiO Are there fuses we can buy that will be less suspectible to being blown or is it just inevitable based on the design of this power supply?

I bought some 1A 250V 5x20 Slow-blow ceramic fuses on the giant shopping site and have only blown one so far. I would still argue that these units seem to be operating too close the where the fuses blow and that would (arguably) be a design flaw, but fuses are cheap and they don't seem to be offering replacement units even though they "re-designed" them.
And to answer the previous question - I haven't found a specific condition where mine has blown a fuse consistently.

Well, not exactly. The PL50 delivers up to 2A at 15V while the Fiio R9 requires up to 3A at 15V... (might however still work until you require the full power output of the headphone amps).
Theoretically yes but in practice works well even with difficult loads.
Problem may arise if the user attaches external hard drives without their own power supply or other external I/O devices.

Were you able to permanently resolve the fuse change?
Were there any other burns afterwards?
It's only happened that one time and I use it most every day. So hopefully it won't happen again. Just in case though I picked up some replacement fuses on Amazon.

Do you leave the PL50 on straight away or do you turn it off every day?
I think the greatest stress on the fuse would be during the daily start, so leaving it connected directly as if it were a normal notebook PSU would make the fuse last longer, just my thoughts.

I find it strange that simple common sources such as those from cell phones, video games or the original source from the Fiio k7, etc. It's common to connect and leave it connected all our lives without worrying and it never causes any problems, but now that there are special sources that are much better made These worries come to us, the beast in our heads will understand.

I was just leaving it on most of the time but after the fuse was blown been turning it off every day when I turn off the M17.
