I'm planning on replacing my Triport OE with one that costs (much) less but performs even (or more than!), or  one that costs as much but would be way better than it. Your suggestions would be really appreciated!

Sennheiser HD 203 or 201s would already be a huge improvement.

^ Thanks Swaffleman! The triports aren't that bad though but from what I've read and learned here in head-fi, they (the triports) are just not worth the money you paid for.

Until you try other brands you won't know. Hearing is subjective and we do not hear detail the in the same way . The bose OE triports will lack the "Sound stage" the 201's or 203's have IMO. Yes, you pay for the name brand on the Bose, but they are pretty good portables 

. 
 
AND Iknow there are better ones out there as many will chime in. But unfortunately around here we lack any type of store that sells a huge variety of cans so I have to read about them in the WWW. We have Best Buy

 But I really would prefer to hear them first hand. 
 
Oh and for the price I may try to get a pair of 201's.
