I've just sold my D2000s. Since I heard O2s and 404s, Staxes have always been my ultimate audio goal. For now, I've got an opportunity to buy SRS-2050II set. Would it be a nice step into Stax's world? How are they compared to $500-priced dynamic cans powered from not-so-bad amp in Icon HDP? Or maybe, there are just the lowest model, that sucks compared to their bigger brothers? I'm not expecting a quality of Omegas, but it'd be nice to have them, I think. Any opinions?

I didn't try my SR-202 out of the SRM-252 but from the KGSS they sound VERY nice, i prefer them to about any dynamic phones i heard short of the very high-end such as HD800 and my W5000's. They don't suck by any means, even compared to the O2 they have about the same level of bass slam and punch, thogh i gotta do some more listening time to determine that.

I moved to my former 252a+202 from a D5000 (which I hated - too bassy, etched highs). I also hated the 202/252.
Clipped at high volumes and was very thin sounding. Depends on the music I guess, but I absolutely hated it with orchestral + soloist classical (pno or violin). Wasn't much good for metal or rock either.

404 was a lot more lush and suitable for easy listening =P, and SRM-1/mk2s don't clip :D (although $$$)

YMMV
