I did . Now irreversably, with SRM-300 and SR-404 gone for a SA5000 and BR/SACD player and a bulky amp . Didn't really intend to though.

Looking at the pics in your review, and reading the comment about what a birdie said, it does make me wonder if there really is going to be much difference between the 404LE and the 507. Certainly the frame is different, but otherwise they pretty much look the same in terms of pads, housings and cable.

The drivers are completely different and so is the way they are mounted to the baffle.

I have both the 404LE and the 507 as well. The bass on the 404LE is one of the more obvious differences for me. It's a bit fuller and looser than the 507's tightly controlled bass. Overall, the 507 sounds more refined to me as well.

at least it's not like with SR-404 that had Labda Sig's (as in the old sigs) graph in the manual

Just received my 507's from PriceJapan. Good service if anyone was on the fence. Unfortunately nothing to drive them with right now! I had an SRM-1 MK2 PRO that seemed to be mine on ebay, but got pipped at the last few seconds. Put it down to my lack bidding experience... Just gotta keep my eyes open for when something comes up somewhere else.

How would you compare the amps? I'm looking to get a Stax rig and was looking at the 323s.

Long version
Take my impressions with a grain of salt as it was in a not totally quiet place. I went to my favorite Stax dealer here in Japan. I listened through a srm-600 and a srm-006TS, as well as a little on a 323s. I hated the 307 immediately, it sounded like a 404 and 303. In other words etch. The 407 and 507 were very close. Both sounded great with no etch at all. I felt there was more bass from the 507 also it felt a bit more detailed in transient notes. I would say if you are tight on money don't feel bad about the 407. It really is the best bang for the buck lambda and the sound quality is very similar to the 507. I have a small head ( I usually wore the old head band assembly as small as it would go) and the 507 feels great. My setting is 2 clicks above the smallest setting.
Compared to the SC1 and the LNS the 507 beats them both.
Well time to get back to my 507s...
