FWIW I have found the 007 Mk2 smoother than the L700 both from a 353x and from a 007t ii. For the price the L700 is unbelievable, but IMHO the 007 is another class.

I have a 007t and am looking for a Stax headphone for the amp. Someone told me the 007t fits best with MK1. Anyone have any idea on which headphone would be the best one for 007t?

For MK1 you say SR-007 MK1?
If that is the case, 007t has not enough power for it, you'll need (at least) a KGSSHV for that one.
Lambdas are much more efficient and a better match for 007t.

Does anyone have experience comparing a mk1 007 with a modded mk2.5? I can't find a consensus on what would be better. If the mk2.5 is ~$150 cheaper, is it the better buy, or can the mk1 outshine it enough to justifiy the cost/age/chance I'd have to (or would highly benefit if I were to) replace the pads?

Hard to gauge what you'd find better without knowing any of your gear or references.

That's fair, but I'm sort of stepping in "blind" in some sense. For a while I've felt I preferred a colder to warmer sound (which makes the choice of 007s seem in the first place, but considering the price is so similar to L700s, I wanted to go with 007s instead), but I'm honestly not completely sure. Beyer T1s had been my daily drivers for over a year and I loved them, but when I got L300s, it completely blew away the T1s and now hardly care about the T1s at all. I recently got DT 770 80ohm's, and I love them for music listening, but they're really treble harsh for anything else, and while I wouldn't get Stax if it weren't to listen to music, I do want to use them as an all-rounder.
I'll be starting with a very underwhelming amp setup, A Woo Wee (I don't believe any of the claims that it hurts the headphones) paired with an Emotiva A-100. I haven't purchased any of it, but that's about what my starting budget for an amp would be. I'm not convinced I'd ever want to go with a tube amp with the 007s because they're already dark/warm for my tastes (again, in theory, having not heard them), looking to maybe get a KGSSHV Carbon when funds allow.

Someone else that has lived with the WEE or whatever energizer should provide their input to give better context. It's been too long since I even last heard a WEE
and I didn't think anything of it. Your decision to run the WEE with the risk.

Totally fair. Driver aside, do you have any opinion on how the different 007s compare to each other tonally?

For me, it's just balance. With an 009 the 007 mk 1 is more complementary. The Mk2 runs a bit more bright and perhaps firmer in the bass. I think with scaling amplification the
differences dwindle, though.

The 007 need more power than the L700 to sound good or not?
Yes. It’s a power hungry headphone at the frequencies extremes so if not amplified properly will sound too dark and muffled. The 007 need more power than the L700 to sound good or not?
Apparently no current Stax amps really cut it and you’re forced to go for a modded or third party amp.

Is it a Stax?

The 007 absolutely needs proper amplification to sound their best. I've been driving mine with a SRM-717, and my new KGSSHV blows it out of the water. You can read my comparison of the two in the Stax thread, but yes-- the 007 will eat up all the power you can throw at it.The 007 need more power than the L700 to sound good or not?
