Stax: SR 002 + Srm 002 and Srm 003 mk2 + Srm 003 impression and appreciation thread

I ordered a power adapter plug for the SR -002, supposedly the AC002. I got it and it does not work. I measured the voltage and is was 5.2 volts. In the past I have tried a Sony and a Phillips 4.5 volt cd power supply. They did not work either. Now I have a regulated variable dc voltage that I also use for other estat amps. Now with the tip is + and the barrel is negative and the appropriate adapter works great. For home use it is great but is a brick when it comes to portability. I also found that to use ac I need the batteries pulled out.
What have other folks tried and what worked?I

Ignore this, Played around with the new adapter and got it to work.

Excellent earphones and portable amplifier, D-10 is a bit weak for full-size headsets, but it is made for 003, i find 003 very comfortable, they sound like "baby sr 007"

Tests and more fun today with the SRS002. I had mentioned before that the AC adapter I purchased online not working, but it actually does. What I found with it was that after turning it on with the adapter, it takes almost a minute to warm up and work but maybe another 10 minutes to sound good and maybe an hour to get really good, less if I use eco mode. Now with the regulated variable power supply it starts right up and needs no real time to sound good. Alkaline batteries about the same. Tonight I thought I would try some rechargeable ones I had just charged up. These are Duracell rechargeable batteries and say 1.2 volt on them. Going on 6 hours of playback and sound very good, I will have to try some regular alkaline ones next for any sound differences and let everyone know if these 1.2V rechargeables are worth any further investigations.

Follow up on the rechargeable 1.2 volt aa batteries, about the same, 5 hours but after five hours the sound deteriorated. Next I am ordering some lithium ion rechargeable batteries.

Hi,

I recently bought SR-003mk2.
Great earphones. Something strange is happening. When I start to listen, my left earphone is really quiet.

The sound is heavily on the right side.
But it seems the left earphone gets louder after a couple of minutes but never at the same level as the right.

I never got the sound centred. I don't have this happening with any headphones or IEMs.

Is this a normal thing with 003, or might the left earphone not work properly?

Cheers!

What amp are you using? Were they new or used? I have the SR-002 and it is centered. Now I have an ancient set of SRX/mrk III Normal Bias that takes over a day for them to balance if they are not played every month.

One thought, check the connections, both the 5 pin and both earpiece connectors. They may need to be reseated or cleaned.

At the moment, I have Topping EHA5. I have other headphones that I use with the same amp, and the sound is balanced and without issues.
At least, I didn't notice.

I didn't even know that the earpiece connectors could be disconnected. :)
Ok, I tried that, and I am not sure if it's better (or it is, hmm)...I will listen again tomorrow and see...
Connectors are difficult to remove and even harder to place back. I couldn't fit them all the way back.

This could be the reason. I do play more often than after a month. :)
But this is probably the case and not the earphones.
Another pair of headphones that I have possibly reacted differently, so I haven't noticed this.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Cheers!

Received some AA rechargeable Lithium batteries. The brand is EBL and they are rated at 1.5 volts and 3300 mWh. Right of the bat they beat the ni-cads in the sound. The Ni-Cad’s sound anemic and a bit distorted compared to the Lithium. The Ni-Cads are rated at 1.2 volts and just don’t have enough oomph.

So more on the rechargeable Lithium batteries. I definitely like sound better. One thing though they get hot and shut down. Let them cool down a bit and they work fine.

I just got back from a plane/car trip and took the SRS-002 with me. The CES-A1 worked great, reducing outside noise. Ear wings also worked as well.
