You can experiment with how much cotton to use. I like about a little over half full in the cup, loose. I tried fiber fill like what is used in speakers, but I did not feel it did much. What I notice with the cotton, is more detail and the bass seems fuller and deeper.
any chance you could take a picture of how much you fill with cotton? i want to try this but i don't want to start with a total random guess

Sad news. It seems the Stax SRS-002 has been discontinued. On the Stax USA site, it is not listed, and on Elusive Disc’s site listed as discontinued. It looks as if the SR-003 and D10 is the new version of portable.

Sad, but unsurprising. For a niche market, the existence of the 002 and 003 simultaneously had to be dividing up an already lean product... I'm glad I was about to get a 5-pin adapter for my 002 to use with my D10 as it adds some nice versatility, but I would hardly call the D10 portable.

In terms of portability, I would rather have the SR 002 vs the SR003 and D10

Where are you getting the adapter? I have one I purchased a few years ago from a member who machined them.

Has anyone found a rechargeable AA battery’s that will work with the SR-002? I have read about Pale Blue in facebook that states a 1.5 v output where most rechargeable batteries are rated at 1.3v.

Search for Kentli batteries on AE or go here:

Someone recommended them when I was looking for rechargeable batteries for my SR-002 many years ago. I’ve been using them since (and have bought several more).

I’m no expert in this, but what I look for are batteries with as flat a discharge curve as possible i.e. they have a constant voltage output until they drop dead and you have to recharge them. As opposed to a battery that outputs progressively weaker voltage until it’s impossible to ignore its impact on sound quality.

To my ears, it largely fixes the wonky sound signature of the stock SR-003, so it sounds much more "normal" vis-a-vis the rest of my headphones. The effect is similar to stuffing cotton into the CES-A1 cups, but unlike that mod, you don't need to own the CES-A1.

What is the material and how is it attached?
