Speaker amps for headphones

It's a minimal controlled risk but lose the resistor box. Make sure all connections are made, the source selected, the needle dropped and the volume control is fully turned down. When every potential spike has been eliminated and the music is playing, turn up slowly and have a mirror ready. I have two adapter boxes I don't use. In fairness, I blew a couple pair of HE-6 by my own mistakes (HiFiman blessed my stupidity by replacing under warranty) but lesson learned it's a sound that keeps the grin.

I recently changed my audio interface and headphone amp to SPL Marc one matching with my Arya Stealth. It's absolutely pleasing experience! since, review of Marc one lacks in the internet, I'd like to share it. It's so clean, well balanced and detailed
sound. If music production is your hobby in addition to listening music hobby, this will be really good audio interface for quality sound.

I am looking forward to perusing the thread, but before I do I will say using a speaker amp to power my ZMF Caldera is a listening gem. I have used two amps. Both are Class A high quality amps. You can see them in my signature, but to save you from squinting, they are the Acuphase A-70 SS and the Synthesis A40 Tube amp. I am using a Fog City HP adapter with speaker taps with Forza cables. To no surprise both amps work great, but of course the noise floor of the tube amp is definitely audible and the A-70 is dead silent. Plus, A-70 I can dial in the volume much better with precise adjustments whereas the Synthesis not so much. In the end, I would feel safe using the A-70 over the A40, but foresee switching back and forth for alternative listening flavor.

Now, I will read the thread.

I'm awaiting delivery of an adapter box to go from 8W SET speaker amp to HD800S. The adapter box has both 6.35mm and XLR4 inputs. I have both cables for HD800S and wondered as my speaker amp is not a headphone amp, should I avoid using either the balanced or unbalanced input, or should it not matter which to use and it's just a personal preference? I don't want to damage the equipment at each end.

Given the power output of your speaker amp you’ll probably be ok, also given the 800S is 300 ohm impedance - assuming that 8W is into 8 ohms as per usual specs. But following the advice of @Happy Camper above you should be fine either way using the speaker taps- balanced or single ended in should not affect your power out of speaker taps though it may affect your headroom adjusting volume. Probably worth doing balanced if your signal chain in the DAC and pre-amp are balanced to minimize signal noise.

It is funny that I never stumbled upon this thread before, as I have been using Schiit Gjallarhorn mono blocks to power some of my Planar headphones for quite a while now lol. Right now I use my Mjolnir 3 to preamp them, and I have a 4 x banana plug to 4pin XLR female cable connected to them with great results on my SJY Audio headphones.

Been using my ca1000s to drive my beyers. I can confidently say that they're a better match vs my burson conductor.
