But tube amps give a certain sound, a meter is just visual. Whenever I've watched one it's always in the red I thought they'd only touch red occasionally.
that's probably because those are digital level input level meters not actual output power meters which are much harder to implement on a DAP.

Analog has more headroom for burning in. Digital clips, but analog creates a nicer sounding "crush" of transient peaks. Digital VU meters are in trouble if they go into the red. Analog ones are allowed to burn in peaks, so they go into red more often.

Great... this and all the included digital input level VU meters out there are just great advertisement for the DAPs that show them

It's a multiband dynamic range expander that you can just leave on and it will adapt its threshold intelligently with your music and just work to pretty much decompress any of your DR compressed music without needing constant intervention. :)

I meant the thing about VU meters, but never mind. It's ok.

I mean given what you point out, these mfcs are pretty much shooting themselves in the foot showing those VU meters that way :D

Thanks! I love binging on nature docs!

Here is a fantastic documentary on the fraudulence of modern art that covers some of the things I was saying in the thread on John Cage's 4'11". The site is full of documentaries you can't see anywhere else on the internet. This doc is banned because "the biggest collector of Warhol paintings in the world" didn't like the way he looked in the film and threatens to sue any site that hosts it.

That isn't the case with modern art. Warhol predates all of us. If you watch the documentary, you'll see exactly what destroyed the fine art market. It wasn't even the art itself.
