Yep, heard that before.
They were preowned by someone I trust so there was nothing wrong with the phones. They were also properly burned in by him.
At the time everyone was raving about the LCD2. when the LCD3 came out everyone was like, oh sure, the LCD2 wasn't that good but the 3 is much better.
The amps I had at the time were: EAR HP4, Zana, Luxman P-1u, Luxman SQ-N100, Phonitor and Yammy. Not the worst amps as far as I know.
Also, none of the better open phones I owned (K1000, K701, AD2000, GS1000, HD800) sounded as good to my ears than any of my top closed cans (W3000ANV, L3000, LA7000, LA-900).
I just read a few impressions by another member who likes the LCD-XC a lot and finds it better than the LCD3, LCD-X or HE-600. Maybe I should give Audeze a second chance and try the XC since I seem to strongly prefer closed cans to open ones.
I also read some very good (and some very bad) impressions about the EL-8C so I must admit that one caught my eye as well.
Apart from these two the only other phone on my radar for the moment is the Z7 but I wonder if the rumors were true and a real flagship is coming this year.
Some LCD-2s have been known to go bad over time, so... actually, being pre-owned and even burned in would increase the likelihood of it being a bad pair. It was a QC nightmare for Audeze, and the LCD-3 got it even worse. You can still see people moaning about dead LCD-3 drivers today. And yeah... it's bad enough that eventually, the driver would just "die" rather than stopping at "going bad".
But anyway, that's a story for another thread.
I'd say... if you like the D5000/D7000 and TH900, then the XC may just be your ticket after all. I still see it as being the best closed-back headphone on the market. I will eventually own one when I have found a good pair (yeah, QC issues mentioned above), but for not, I'm content with modding my Z7.
