I think the lower price is Amazon 3rd party, that ships them from Japan.  I got my Kimber that way...

Well, they all come from Japan, know what I mean? There's a huge markup on them. Sony replacement pads are 2.2K yen ea. in Japan if you can find them, communicate and get the logistics to ship them. Same pads listed in US equal $50-60 ea, but are unobtainium. 2.2K yen is like 22 bucks lol.

Importing is the way to go.  Check out places like Price Japan or AccessoryJack.  But still, at best one can only hope to save 15% or so...

Sony went too far with there high price, both the ZX2 and PHA3 are $600 overprice 
The Z7 at $500 is a good price at $700 it's still good but not the best vaule

It's a little different with Sony, Sony is a big company most of there products are for the mass. 999.99% of the world don't know who the hell is Audeze or Mr Speakers. Sony go toe to toe with Audio Technica and thier price are not ridiculous price.

Focal can back up their price on there heaphone. Some of there products are not for the mass only a few people in the world can pay $10K for a speaker and 1K to get that speaker sound on a headphone

Well some think the Z7s sound worse than NAD VISO HP50s, so seen in that light, yes the Z7s would be overpriced as hell.
I don't agree, the Z7s are better than the HP50s, I find them worth 400 dollar for sound alone, that means 499 dollar for sound + built quality.
