.

Btw there is one in the FS forum for $170. I just pinged the seller to see if its still available. But if your interested and the price works for you I will back down since between the difference in currency and likely shipping charges may hold me back anyway since I can get it in Canada from a Canadian reseller for about $250 brand new anyway.

nope,,only brand new with full warranty for such premium item.
u go ahead.

Unless the shipping works out to be very cheap I would go new as well since the difference in dollars wouldn't justify the loss of warranty.

Where are you located at BTW?

To those that own the XBA Z5 and have heard the XBA-4's, how do they compare? I own a set of the 4's and not sure if I want to get the Z5 yet, but the 4's kind of annoy me after a while of listening due to the fatiguing highs. I do quite like everything else about the 4's though. Thanks in advance.

H3 is already a step higher than XBA-4. I had both XBA-30 and XBA-40 for a certain amount of time.

Therefore, Z5 should be far above.

H3 destroys XBA-4.

Hi ZacT94,

I've been using XBA40i for more than 2 years.  I am happy to let you know that Z5 is definitely worth the upgrade.  I mostly listen to pop, jazz, classical (organ, chamber, opera) , blues on ALAC, FLAC, WAVE, DSDIFF files with no equalizer enhancement on my Sony NWZ-ZX1/PHA-2.  Here is my initial impression after 40 hours listening with the MUC-M12SM1 unbalanced cable ( highly recommended for A3, A2, H3, H2 owners )  It gives better control of the low frequency (tighter and deeper bass) and more presence to your listening experience than the supplied cable.

Comfort - A sizeable in-earphone but lightweight, very comfortable for long hours listening

Soundstage - Airy, clear, good separation between instruments and voices

Treble -  Crystallized treble with plenty of details coming through without being clinical. Very good clarity. No sibilance.  Plenty of headroom without being fatigued

Mid - slightly warm mid, clear, engaging with plenty of presence factor, no mid bass bloat to voices and instruments

Bass - Tight, well controlled , clean, impactful when needed, depth of bass

Z5 requires a running in period in order to work to its best ability.  It keeps improving in all areas!  It really shines when listening to high res files! ( Best with Sony PHA-3/ MUC-M20BL1 balanced cable )

Hi BlinkST,

I tried Z5/NWZ-ZX1/original supplied cable for an hour and Z5/NWZ-ZX1/PHA-3/MUC-M20BL1(balanced cable) for an hour at the Sony store before purchasing Z5.  It certainly enhanced my listening experience to another level.

The challenge with the pha3 is that the balanced outputs have a higher output than the regular stereo so will have an enhanced sound compared to stereo output making it hard to tell why it sounds better.

Man! That looks tempting.

I prefer the design of the PHA-1 and PHA-2, though. But the PHA-3 sure looks huge. Or is the DAP a little too small?
