I was going to order one as well, but then I saw here two reports (in fairly quick succession) of issues with the cable. Do you think there's something about the design/build that makes it susceptible to this or it was just coincidence?

Can anyone here definitely say without a doubt, that cables make a difference in sound? I kind of need an upgrade cable anyways for the z1r because mine is used and old. I have to eq my z1rs quote a bit to tame the harsh treble, and if a 200-300 dollar cable can make a noticeable difference I'd be up for it.

Or would it be better to spend that money towards a better amd/Dac (which is also debatable whether actual sound improvements could be noted- I have a thx 789 and topping e-30)

Yes, go for an OCC copper or OCC silver cable. The stock is silver plated and causes the the harsh treble.

I can recommend the DHC Complement C or Prion4.

I’ve had no problem with my two while I owned them though the one Gerelmex had to have fixed was my old one that he bought (I got it nearly 4 years ago)

The Lavri Grand is also pure silver at a little over 1/3 of that price
According to their website it's not OCC.

The Prion4 is, so that is why it costs more.
