I am thinking the same. IMHO tazh1es is very good as a stand-alone unit. I don’t think it scales well with other dacs and amplifiers.hmm idk. i imagine the dac is always doing something. anybody know?

Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I agree, it doesn’t scale well, my Schiit makes a minimal difference if anything to the soundstage and clarity. I was impressed how it works standalone w/ usb.I am thinking the same. IMHO tazh1es is very good as a stand-alone unit. I don’t think it scales well with other dacs and amplifiers.
Now im kinda regretting the silver streak and gungnir. a lil bit. im going home today so i will hook the TA back up and see if there’s a difference with and without EQ

I read some where that the analog line in is digitized.

The analog inputs on the TAZH1ES are run through an ADC. You can't hear the TAZH1ES without the dac.The Z1R + TAZH1ES sounds great independently but i cant tell a big difference between that and plugging my Schiit Gungnir DAC into it line in using Kimber Kable Silver Streak. Maybe the $1000 schiit isn’t good enough to really improve the DAC built in to the TAZH1ES

No. The first step of the analog in is conversion to dsdCan tazh1es be used as pure amplifier only?

so do you think the Gungnir being an additional DAC wont be effective? I think it isnt the biggest change for my TAZH1ES. it works for my analogue Sennheiser HDVA600 well however. The analog inputs on the TAZH1ES are run through an ADC. You can't hear the TAZH1ES without the dac.

There's no point to using an external DAC to the Tazzy at all. It'll just sound worse than feeding it the digital file directly. You're going to be using the output of the DAC no matter what you do.so do you think the Gungnir being an additional DAC wont be effective? now that’s an accurate description. it feels like a pillow and sounds like a pillow. in a good wayIt was like wearing a pillow on my head. Perfectly balanced, no pain from clamping pressure on my ears or on top from the headband

well with analog line in i feel that i get an experience that at the very least is just as good as digital direct. it has an analog line in for a reason, and i think im doing itThere's no point to using an external DAC to the Tazzy at all. I believe that they only put the rca input on the Tazzy to accommodate turntables and other analog sources with no digital option. If you look into the settings on the Tazzy you will see that you can choose what sample rate you want the ADC conversion to work at. So if you send a lossless 24bit 192khz file to your Gungnir and then plug the analog output of the Gungnir to the TAZH1ES it will be resampled from the analog signal into whatever you have the Tazzy set to. Of course, you can do whatever you want though. As long as it sounds good.well with analog line in i feel that i get an experience that at the very least is just as good as digital direct. it has an analog line in for a reason, and i think im doing it

They are driven good even in SE ftom DMP-Z1. And the SE of the DMP sounds equally as good as the 4.4
