If I had to describe the Z1R in as few words as possible, it'd be: "Toe-tapping." No other headphone has given me such an urge to get up and dance. Quite the accomplishment, I reckon.
They have their limitations though, occasionally the "fog" descends on certain tracks. Unsure if it's the mastering, the source, or a combo of the above. My ZX507 is borderline but still very listenable. Creative's AE-7 is much more consistent. I guess it is true what has been written before, these things need decent electronics to really shine.
kefs, that sucks. Three months of waiting for that is a bit of a kick in the teeth.
FWIW the Dekoni sheepskin pads seem well made enough for me (Dekoni are on the left, stock on the right). They're a little less "sculpted," but the feel on the head is good and there are no obvious defects. I still prefer stock, but It's a nice backup.

I know, I know, looks are deceiving, and all, but the stock pads look a lot more.. expensive? It certainly has an air of class that the Dekoni struggles to achieve. Of course, what truly matters is how these pads feel on your head and ears, but wow, the original Sony pads do actually look good.

I’ve been using these for about a year and am happy with them. A bit more room for the ears and don’t change the sound enough that I have noticed it. The mounting ring on the back is protein leather while the rest is sheepskin (at least that is what they claim). I paid £34 including shipping to Denmark and they took 2-3 weeks to arrive

The stock pads are definitely better, both in terms of build quality and feel on the head. But they also cost 3 times as much, right? ($121 x2 vs $80) So I feel pretty good with it as a backup.
I think one of the main selling points is the mounting ring, personally, in addition to the real leather.

Last year someone in this thread got a 3D scan made of the mounting rings and got it transformed into a 3D print file. He’ll pass it on for a small fee if anybody want it and has access to a 3D printer.

Speaking of Focal, how does the Sony Z1R hold up against the Focal Clear? Also any recommendations for a headphone that will work with any device and sound good and sound even better on an Amp?
