Every now and then I kind of miss my TA and the Z1R and the sound signature that both provided. For a closed back pair, they could be made to sound almost like open back with some ridiculously expensive power and interconnects. But the soundstage and detail retrieval of Chord Dave is just hard to beat even if it costs so much more. It’s really too bad that they didn’t pair well together.
Clean the plug with Deoxit D100L and then apply G100L for connectivity improvement, I do it once a quarter. Don’t have the nose issue with DMP-Z1 or WM1Z, just try with DMP-Z1.
I’m auditioning some Focal headphones later this summer. Stellia looks like a great Z1R replacement. Depending on how Utopia sounds, I will likely add it to my collection at some point.
They are fantastic with EDM; the bass on the MDR-Z1R is one of the best around. It's not overly excessive, but it has enough authority and equal parts texture and impact to create a thumping, omnipresent bassline that drives dance music to its finest levels. I listen to a lot of EDM (Hard Trance, Gabber, Happy Hardcore), and the MDR-Z1R is nigh perfect for these genres.
It's not every day you walk out of a shop with a set of, well, anything that is a equivalent to a mortgage repayment.
The Z1R? I can say that they're unbelievably odd.
And I bloody well love them.
I'll post something far more constructive when I can, but if you're here reading this you probably already know why I'd rather listen to them and not type about them.
Yeah, I might go to 56-57 on a DSD.I find different genres are mastered differently, too. I usually hover around 40 for pop, 47-49 for jazz and classical.
