Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I think you should really test them. And if you have no option to test them, its no use to talk about them.

I've read tons and tons of reviews and talked with owners of the Blessing 2 Dusk before buying it and thought i had a pretty good idea how it sounds.

In the end, it sounded like garbage. Every second song just had piercing and painful upper mids. Nobody told me that because a lot of audiophiles like it when their gear sounds painful because this increases the felt amount of detail.

I thought the Meze Liric or the Meze Elite will sound to my liking, but they both had the same problem. Piercing and painful upper mids.

Thankfully neither the ADX5000 nor the Z1R have that, but this is just an example to show you, that our findings can be completely different to your findings.

ADX5000 sounds like a studio monitor. Lots of detail, very neutral and flat tuning. The MDR-Z1R sounds like listening to a stereo system.

They can't be compared and it makes no sense to compare them. You can perfectly like both for completely different reasons.

I doubt that anyone would say that A is better than B because they are just too different to be compared in the first place
I have settled in with the Shure SRH1540.

Can anybody recommend a headband cover for the Z1R? I had one custom made for my TH900, but was wondering if there were other options… that actually fit as the band is wider in the center and then tapers. Thanks!

I am back in the game!!! And this improved TAZ with MDR is such a great combo. If one would think that they can just listen to MDR out of a powerful DAP, then they should think again. When hooked into a more powerful amp, the MDR would scale up again!! It just doesn’t stop scaling up at all.

Then there are Dekoni Pads. I have both the Alcantara and hybrid versions here. They bring enjoyable changes to the signatures. The hybrid is more open, still punchy, little more speed in transients which improves bass articulations somewhat, but you may face sibilants issues depends on recordings.

Dekoni Velcro will further providing that neutral signatures overall that you crave for and together with the largest staging, while attenuates the sub bass and improve transient responses the most ! This Pad is the best pads for MDR if you don’t care much for the emphasized sub bass and mid bass or slower transient responses, but rather craving for the larger staging together with the most neutral signatures that MDR can bring out

Stock pads : bass monster, slowest transients, also the least tendency to bring sibilants. Warm and dark

Dekoni hybrid: tastefully less bass and faster transients with the tendency to being sibilants. Still warm and dark, little less than stock

Dekoni Alcantara: Most neutral, most soundstage, bass is a lot more controlled and articulated, most transient speediness. The Least warm and dark…

One thing with Dekoni is that unlike Stock pads, no marking is provided, and that is such a sweet PITA to put on….I recommend Dekoni to start marking them up in some ways, either with a permanent marker or a leather imprint like stock pads. Amazing pads/products, can not just lack a little marker

Nice write-up on the pads! Still trying to decide which ones to get. How are the inner size of the pads compared to stock?

The inner sizes are very similar, the only cons is that the figments are different from stock from the plastic frame that the leather hold onto. This frame will be twist locked into the phones housing. It doesn’t have a good look as the stock pads.

Thinking about getting the Forza Claire HPC mk2 cable for the Z1R. Would this cable be better than stock in terms of taming the sometimes harsh treble?

@davidmthekidd
By any chance do you have a link to the stand the 1Z is on.
Is it sturdy enough to plug headphones into the Z and not have it topple over?
Thanks

Hi guys, i have a Sony Z1R feeded by a iFi Micro IDSD Signature, i really enjoy this setup but i always want to test something new
Do you think that the Z1R is limited by my dac/amp ?
Would it be a big step forward if i go with the RME ADI ?

So I was browsing an online store came across this model (demo model). I've always wanted a replacement for my Sony CD3K (that I killed by not soldering the wire ribbon properly).

Is there a better buy? (Can buy the Beyer T5.2 for around 50% less from the same seller). The Beyer T1. 3 and T5. 3 is the same price as the Sony

Thoughts?

Edit: I just want to mention my 2 other phones. A pair of Denon D7K and Shure 1540
