Sony Z1R....listening impressions only

I am not sure if you have seen this video. Obviously with reviews, it is always good to have multiple sources of information and not just from one source.
But I must say they are beautiful.

You might find a lot of information/impressions rather conflicting with that person opinion/review. We sell all those brands and more but I find that YouTube review quite contrary in most respects to many of our clients impressions. My impressions are also very contrary.

I decided on the Kimber AXIOS based on the feedback I read on Head-Fi, but wasn't sure which to get, Cu, Combo or Silver. Jason was kind enough to provide feedback via PM and recommended the Cu based on what I was looking for.

Based on what I saw when I visited Jason's store (the breadth of what he carries) and his recommendation of the Cu, I would take his word over any YouTube review.

Totally agree and I made the same choice

Why not just use the Sony KimberKable? It should be close equivalent to the Kimber Axios CU at only a third of the price.

I’d like to say you are correct but it’s not a correct statement of fact. The Kimber Axios is lightyears better than the Sony Kimber but that said the Sony Kimber is significantly better than the cable Sony provides with the Z1R. This is a bit of a subjective issue but these are sold and marketed based on what Sony & Kimber thought was the best way to treat the potential customers with respect and quality in performance.

I hope this is a helpful contribution to the topic. Good luck!!

Is Kimber the maker or is it AXIOS?

I wonder why Sony decided to ship the Z1R with cheap silver plated copper cables?

Those cables do a major disservice to the Z1R and don't show what it can really do.

Yes of course. The AXIOS series are from and made by Kimber. The Sony Kimber is identified as such because Sony endorses Kimber standards and practices and they make a licensed Kimber design. The AXIOS is the premier performance version of the same technology Kimber created.

Sony’s thinking as they expressed to me is that you’ve likeky got your own cable preferences so they’ll provide what’s required to get you going the day you open the box and then at your convenience you can replace the cable with a cable or your preference and budget if you feel it necessary

Makes sense. Probably the same reasoning why none of the dedicated dap’s come with headphones

I understand that logic, but surely it can back fire if less than knowledgeable Customers are not aware of the compromised stock cable and end up returning the Headphones. Plus in the UK there is not even option to buy Sony Kimber cable from Sony Dealers and it is not on the Sony UK website.

I am slowly saving up and will buy it from you.

But you would have no problem with the phones if you were unaware of others preferences, perhaps.
If nobody told you that you could do better, would you think you could?
Might just be the power of suggestion for many.
I have yet to meet an audiophile who has it all together anyway. Too many variables beyond our own ears to keep track of.

Yes that is a good point. However knowing how bad the stock cable is based on remarks on this thread, people could be disappointed with that Zingy treble spike and then return the Headphone. Those that have the Sony Kimber cable have explained that the Zingy peak disappears with Kimber cable.
