Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)
Jan 18, 2021 at 5:12 AM Post #3,001 of 8,231
I was away over the weekend - I didn't have the player with me, and only now I got to listen again to music with it.

Just amazing, like every time, but especially more now since I don't usually take "long" breaks from music :D

Edit: Look, post number 3000 in this thread 😅
Remember the old SONY NW-WM1Z / WM1A thread was up to 3000 pages

@MrWalkman, May I please try it? All these so many positive responses are making me impatient.

Ok, sure, sent you a PM.

The update will come hopefully later today or tomorrow.

Hmm, what could this be?

WM1C refers to a line of players, similar to A30 Series or WM1 Series.

I guess it's what it says on the box - a bluetooth remote for Sony DAPs. It is from 2016, so it refers to A30, but my strong guess is that it works also with A40 & A50 series that came out later. Also WM1 is mentioned

Here is the manual in Chinese and Korean

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4595/45956392M.pdf

It's not about the remote, it's about the models that it says it's compatible with.

We have A30 Series and WM1 Series, but we don't have WM1C Series.

Edit: I also found this reference somewhere in the firmware: "NW-WM1 NW-WM1C NW-A30 series".

Maybe it's something they intended to do, but they scrapped it out, similar to the video playing support, for example.

I would like to thank @MrWalkman for letting me test FE+. I must start by saying that I am the kind of guy that is looking to hear the different instruments playing as if in their own separate tracks while listening to HiRes music. I am constantly looking to hear things I did not hear before. Only recently I have started to use open back headphones (Hifiman Arya) while neglecting my campfire audio solaris 2020 (my ears gets agitated after an hour or two). The experience is completely different.

I have followed all recent modes by @MrWalkman to find its tuning get refined from one release to another.

The FE+ seems to me like an old matured Whiskey that sat there for 25 years. It is full bodied. Every thing is in its rightful place. Flavorable. Sounds as it was intended to. Everything sounds in nearly perfect harmony (nothing is perfect. If it was we would have been just using FE. But nothing is final).

I listen to multiple different artists... Pearl Jam, Peter Gabriel, Dire Straits, The Cure, Queen, Massive Attack, the Twilight Sad, etc. (I am a child of the 80s and early 90s what can I do). Everything seems to sound better, more accurate, more balanced.

When I bought my WM1Z I never thought I would enjoy its value so many years after my purchase. the matter of fact is @MrWalkman has a lot to do with it prolonging the 'worthiness' of the player allowing us to discover new experiences with the same hardware. Thank you!
:beerchug: I totally agree with you, great summary

Depending on region the remote is also compatabile with the ZX300 and considering its the Taiwanese site I'm sure the TW region supports the remote.
The ZX300 had a Chinese model that had an A suffix and was 16gb instead of the 64gb, it was available through Joybuy - I wonder if there was an intention to do the same with the 1A and or 1Z.

That's a good theory.
