Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

As Im a nerd, mrwalkman, can you let me know what that the DAC selection do?

I won't exactly go into details. Basically in the different mode some things are loaded differently during the DAC's initialization.

If you have headphones plugged in while the player starts, at some point during the boot animation the background hiss starts. That's when the DAC gets initialized and this setting apply.

Installed the Dawn v2 (using FEv2 tuning) about 30 minutes ago, and my settings are:

REG=MX3
REM=0
PMV=2 (Plus v2 mode)
PMD=1 (using Plus mode as default)
GM=0 (Gain mod Off/standard gain)
DIM=1 (different DAC initialization mode)
COL=0

Think the only feature I'll toggle back and forth over the weekend is the DIM (DAC mode) setting to see if I can discern the sonic differences; I do like the idea of slightly lower battery usage with the Plus v2 mode as well.

Maybe I couldn't see the "CFW" folder because I was on my Mac using the Content Transfer app.
Content Transfer only shows the MUSIC folder.

If you open the volume WALKMAN in the Finder you will see the folders CFW and MUSIC. I copy everything manually using the Finder.

So hard to pick the favorite between DAWN 2 and midnight 2. Midnight is wider sounder, DAWN 2 is more detailed.

Did you try the Plus v2 mode with either of them? It may help.

No, as I use USB DAC a lot, I don't like the screen on all the time. I'm happy with what I'm hearing, I'm really picking on it for no reason. This is what happens when one is spoiled with options.

The audio glitch doesn't seem to happen to everyone, so maybe you are lucky.

What are the differences between midnight and project z ext tunings?

I personally prefer the project z tuning. To my ears, the midnight tuning is more laid back, lacks a little dynamics but still detailed enough. Project z adds dynamics, gives a wider stage and enhances the overall sound signature to be more live sounding and produces edge details much more vividly.
