I had a question regarding MQA capability of WM1A. Is there a way to enable full MQA decoding on WM1A?

WM1 players can already do x8 decoding, up to 352.8/384 kHz, but not when using the USB DAC function. This has to be put in by Sony.

I beat it is possible, Sony just didn't want to pay the extra decoding fee to MQA. Once again thank you for the amazing FW, it is crazy how much I enjoy my 1A thanks to your FW. I like it as much as my HM1000, if not more!

In the meanwhile, if you find MQA files you can play them locally on the player. As you can do this, I think that they paid the MQA fee, but they just didn't work on making MQA decoding over USB available.

Thanks as well, and I'm glad you like it.

HM1000 is really expensive! It's crazy to think that a $1000 device could sound as good as HM1000.

MQA decoding does work beautifully on the 1A in Walkman mode. As Sony targeted this player for portable listening, the DAC doesn’t support MQA decoding as most probably this player was meant for the portable listening market.

You did a stock revert and back to stock 3.02? If so then yes. Just install the new FEv2 and also don’t forget to install the FEv2 external tuning as well immediately after. Then you’re good to go.

StockRevert doesn't exist for a later WM1A/Z+ firmware, so it's all good.

Yep, all is good.

Turn off player. Flip switch to up position. Then press and hold power button.

thank you all guys :xf_cool:

classic sounds nice , the first word that comes to mind is taut / tight

wm1a is fantastic bang for buck , considering you can find one used for 600-700$
