Any update GSF? Or are you enjoying them too much to write more?

I have updates but not enough to compile and post. Besides my cans and amp are headed to another headfier so I guess thats it from me for now. Hopefully the new owners of the SA5K will have more to say.

Thanks for the review gsferrari. Are the SA1000s closed-type headphones? $100+ is definitely a super steal if they were once only available from Jpn/Audiocubes for $200+. Imagine what prices the ATH-5/7/9 line would cost if they were sold in the US...which leads me to wonder if the SA1000s are superior sounding to the A900s if they are in fact closed types. Now I kind of wish I hadn't just ordered sr60s, but in the spirit of head-fi I will keep them, try to enjoy my time with them, and compare with them.

Hi,

Are there any plans for gsferrari going to update this?

Also, given the popularity of the SA5000, can someone "sticky" this review into the "Full Featured Headphone Reviews" Section.

Or if the review is insufficient, the comments of the many SA5k users should be merged into a single message that is stickied. Consolidating messages saves on junky threads and makes things neater.

Thanks.

gsferrari, have you tried eq to tame the highs of sa1000?
according to my ears, theres a peak at 2.5-3.5khz making the mids sound thin and tinny ala grado. with eq -2db, it makes mids sound fuller and no more harsh treble.

I have given up the practice of EQing headphones to improve the sound. Yes it works to an extent but the negatives - compression of soundstage, lack of extention, smoothing of texture - are too disturbing for me. I had a Behringer DEQ2496...not anymore...nice piece of kit and can make ANY headphone a fun headphone.

Yes they work well out of my Rio Karma and iPod...sounds good. The long cord is a pain in the ass for portable use though.

Music Genres :

Electronica
Classical Instrumental (not vocals...)
New Age
Jazz and Blues

I dont listen to Hip Hop so I cannot comment on that.

Well, I get this feeling that they were never really meant for portable use...

Matey, you're in Tokyo! I wish I had known, because then you could have listened for yourself. This is a bad time cuz I'm moving back to the States and my SA3k are (slowly) getting their way to gsferrari...

Best,

-Jason
