Sony SA5000 deal $200
Nov 2, 2010 at 7:36 PM Post #16 of 141
I ordered the SA5000 from Amazon. I got the last (cheap) one for $224. They are up to 376 again on Amazon, however the Buy.com deal stll seems to be valid. I would act quick if you are on the fence about whether to buy these, as there are probably not many left. They should be here by Saturday or thereabouts.

I usually use and work comfortably while mixing and tracking music with my Proline 2500s. Would the SA5000s be a worthwhile upgrade if I'm looking for a headphone that might be able to go toe to toe with Studio Monitors?

I want to thank the OP for pointing out this deal.

Mine shipped. Yay!!!

Didn't even think twice and ordered one when I saw this thread this morning. I assume they are getting rid of the remaining stock because the MDR-Z1000 should hit the streets in a few days. But that one is $999.

very tempted, but I already have too many headphones and I dunno if these would get used much. :/

Good thing it's sold out at buy.com and back to regular price at amazon.

Not really all that relevant, but the Z1000 are actually priced closer to $800. But yes, I do suspect that may have something to do with this price drop.

I've wanted to try the SA5k for a long time now, but the reviews on them just don't seem suitable for my preferences, so I passed. Eh.

Well it's back down to around $200 on Amazon if you missed your chance earlier.

Awesome deal. I was extremely happy with my SA5K when it was my primary headphone, and its still a worthy can.

...I bought one for a family member as a Christmas gift.

If you don't mind a somewhat brighter presentation, albeit more detailed and transperant, and a lighter bass punch (though very textured and extended) you'd appreciate moving to the SA5K. From my pro-oreinted Audior amp they don't sound too heavy on treble though, Quite neutral and dry but defenitley not streile IMO as was refered earlier.
