Probably a stupid question but; I have all my classical collection ripped in WMA losseless. I convert them to flac while transferring to A17. Do you think I would be better off ripping them in flac again for some reason?

Just bought Goodys A16 cheers Mate! I have quite a few walkmans including the E585,A865 and x1050 and have had the F807,F886 and Z1060 and I must say this little box of tricks beats them all, great SQ,fantastic battery life, expandable storage,APT X and digital out.I had my IFI Nano IDSD up for sale but will probably keep it now that it teams up with the A16,it also connects to the Dacmagic with the same WMC-NWH10 cable which I had bought for my F886 and which didnt work! The Bluetooth aptx also sounds good with Dacmagic which is also aptx.Very handy small player which you can take anywhere, its also plays louder than the 886 and if not quite equal in sq isnt far away,I needed an amp to make the 886 bring out its best and the battery was terrible. On the look out for the Japanese help guide translated into English although so far ive managed to find out what I am looking for.

congratulations

Yes you can use the said cable to connect the A17 to the iDSD Nano. Works great except the battery takes a big hit (I only get 5-7 hrs out of the A17 this way....). I am not aware of a small profile adapter.

Sorry haven't heard the iCan so can't help.

Can I connect the A17 to the IDSD nano with the WMC-NWH10 cable (is there a small profile adapter) ? How is the iDSD better than the iCan? Will this thing drive LCD2?

i see no logic at all !! ... what is the reason that makes you think to do that ?

I thought can some quality (??) be lost when converting one losseless format to another...

Unless WMA-lossless has a hidden bug, that codec has not been updated since it was released i think

so the Digital out mode via the WMC-NWH10 consumes more battery than the analog out via Fiio L5 cable? if you say so, then to skip the WMC-NWH10 and buy instead the L5

It all depends on what you are looking to achieve. I was hoping to use the A-17 as a transport and use the DAC/amp of another device such as the M8 or iDSD because the assumption is that these will have better sound qualities and amplification for my planar headphones. But 7 hour life is a bit short as I already get that from the classic/M8 combo.

Perhaps you can try it out by pluggin the fiio L5 cable and using your amplifier(s) LINE-IN, as the L5 terminates in a 3.5mm plug and check it out which gives you better batt-life

Yes agree, pair it with a 128GB microSD and you get 32 + 128 = ipod classic capacity sans the lifeless osund, sans Hard disk (potential to failure due to moving parts)

This is how I mostly listen to the A-17 and it works great for the JH16's and even my Magnum builds. However the M8 doe not have a "line in" but it sounds significantly better than the A17/Pico and drives my orthos.
