Yes this only works in a dead silent background. No dogs because they'd probably hear the music more than you such is the amount of sound leakage even at low vol which will make them bark even more depending on yours and their musical taste.Meaning the volume will need turning up and they'll bark even louder and so on ad infinitum.

I can hear them even with my semi-open MDR-1R (cause the vents on top of the earcups) and they seem to bark more if I listen to JS Bach or any that has Harpsichord. haha, maybe they hate the Harpsichord

At last a scientific explanation for why metal fans like Grado so much- it is the Chihuahua and the vicious open-back volume cycle driving them ever-louder. On metalhead walkmen, the volume goes all the way up to 11 in spite of EU regulation.

I am enjoying this very much, but like many others, find the volume too low, especially for commuting. I am going to try it with a Topping NX1, can't afford more, and use the Soundmagic E10s. I was wondering though if different IEMs would do the job, in terms of volume especially, rather than this amp. I am also wondering if my Thanks for your comments.

the IEM is given at 16ohm 100db/1mw that's peaks at about 109db when maxing out your A15. it's about the max you should ever use with many genres of music(for your own good I mean).

instead of going for an amp, I suggest you get an IEM that isolates better. just reading a little about the IEM very rapidly, it is mentioned that the isolation is average and that it is vented on both sides. if you get an IEM that isolates 10db more outside noise, that's 10db you don't have to push into your poor ears.

Just sold my A-15 and decided buy Ibasso DX90 , and unfortunetly i must say Sony player sound like peace of small **** in comparison with dx90,even my macbook air 13 (2015) with sirrus logic audio chip been sound a lot better (clarity and details ) when compare to A15.So better option is dont waste money on external portable amps for exaple 170 gbp (sony player) + 110 gbp cayin C5 = 280 pounds so for the same price u can get a lot better player in sq even better for me like AK120 II which cost 3 times more , smaller , and a lot better build  This is my opinion.

Walkman is not sound like a piece of **** ... you just upgraded to a higher league ... it is normal to sound better

but still the walkman is better in portability .. sound enhancements .. battery life

and congratulations for your purchase , interested to hear more about your comparison in sound quality between both

Thanks:wink: So sound in very natural with extended highs and very punchy quick bass .Im not specialist but for me dx90 sound just awesome , i can say many things about sound but i just would say that a15 in comparison with dx90 sound muddy as the mist , and lacks dynamics.

Chiene brand players often are maddening experince, crappy battery life, bad UI and UX, i had a fiio x3 and it has it's sound flaws, for e  my A17 (intl. version) sounds awesome, nice detail retrieval and excellent imaging and stage reproduction close to reality (that's with FLAC 16/44.1)

Thanks for your answer. Yes, my A15 is the EU version, I have it at maximum volume all the time (30) when out and about and it mostly does the job, but I sometimes would like a bit more. I live in a big noisy city. It sounds like a big difference between you & me, wonder if it's the player version or the iems.

I have a non EU model of the A17 and it also only goes up 30 on the volume.

A poster on another thread said there may not be a volume cap on it because the law only applies to mp3 players that come with headphones.

The volume is high enough most of the time but some music is mastered at a low volume. So its no good having a one size fits all approach when it comes to setting the maximum volume.

Thanks again. I've ordered the amp now and I am curious about trying it, but I'd definitely appreciate an IEM with better isolation tip to replace the Soundmagic's at a similar or a bit higher price range.

My A17 also reaches vol. 30 which is MAX, to say so. but tolerable for me is Vol. 10, vol. 11 is loud, vol. 12 louder and from vol. 13 and beyond untolearble unless the album is mastered too quiet

You're hearing must be incredible. Especially as you listen to classical. The quiet passages especially
