Easy said that done, they have to comply with the EU law otherwise they can't sell it, something just like the FCC in the US.

Other DAP's let you turn off the volume cap by changing the region I don't see why Sony can't do the same.

Even sandisk lets you switch off the volume cap and they're a massive company.

They used the same software as on A30 series and its not some kind of exploit, Its for setting up the unit. It will be the same as in A30.
I know, it's being used on the WM1A/1Z, but still, it hasn't been tested yet.

EDIT: sorry I did not read your post correctly. jeah its not tested on the ZX300 you are right sryy

I think it's upto the manufacturer to decide on that.

I think I read somewhere that it is a somewhat grayarea and that they have to ship it with a cap and its not defined if there is a option to disable it.
I heard about that, some companies are strict by the rules, other are less strict, and it up to the end users to decide if there is a option, some smartphones have that feature, but Sony is one company that goes by the rules.

And going by the rules meaning they can implement the most stupid technical option and it's fine ?

Crippling 99% headphones and 10% of the IEMs you connect to their DAPs is not exactly respecting rules and consumers.
But surely in Europe, consumers are mere cows deserving nothing more than a good milking.
Safety is a nice rule, until it's forcefed without any regard for performance.

One thing I find strange about Sony is that quote that this player has 30 hours of battery life at "128 kbps MP3".

As if anybody who buys this player is going to be listening to low bit rate MP3s.

For this sort of player you think people would want 16 bit flac as a minimum and just forget about MP3.

Guess I am one. I have some ancient lower bit rate mp3s and still buy v0/320 occasionally (if I don't want to pay the $5-10 markup for cd quality FLAC some places charge)... on abstract principle I prefer lossless, but I can't reliably tell the difference anyway, and I think the differences in listening gear is still appreciable even if fidelity is not perfect

I think they quote mp3 at 128, is because mp3 is still they most popular file format, and 128 is the acceptable quality low bit rate, for me it used to be 192, but now all my mp3 are 320, i do wish all of my files to be at least flac, but sometimes files are now hard to find if you don't have the original source.
