SONY NW-ZX2

After spending a week with 16/44 PCM on this Walkman, I gotta say I was really ready to call Hi-Res Audio BS after I listened to some 24/96 PCM yesterday and meh!

That's until I listened to DSD 64 for the first time today on the ZX2 and let me say holy smokes this is VERY refreshing indeed (the only time I tried SACD is when I popped one into my S9000ES to make sure it actually works as it's purely for DVD duty, never hooked up to the Hi-Fi rig).

So you are saying DSD > high-res audio ? Or are you saying 64 bits are superior to 16/24/32 ? I am a bit confused

Nope, DSD 64 is 64 times 44.1 so do DSD128 is 44.1 x 128 and so on... we are speaking of MHz samplin rates! tough just one bit

Tried it with my now sold Oppo HA-2 and found no difference with PCM 24/96

No what I really meant was that the DSD 64 stuff is probably mastered a lot better than their CD counterparts. As for the 24/96 stuff I don't really find them noticeably different than their CD counterparts.

I find a lot of folks seem to ignore usability in this as well. These things are pretty close to each other on sound quality, but UI, playlist support, Eq and things like android are vastly different.

Since I write software to sync these things to a Mac I own a LOT of Daps.

Ak100 thru 380 suck on Macs.
Ask Jr UI is slow.
FiiO UI sucks but everything else is great.
Sony Nwzx2 can only mount one storage area at a time to sync, doesn't support balance adjustment but runs open android.
Some daps scan forever, some do strange things with playlists (ak) etc etc

When you finally figure out not only music sq but also workflow to get musicand other stuff they really do differ from each other quite a bit.

I can just about tolerate my Mac's Finder for cut and paste into my Sony ZX-2 though I wonder how difficult it is for them to show both storages at the same time. And switching from one to the other is a real PIA.
So, ignoring iTunes, can I ask you which DAPs have the best UI for using Finder to copy files onto them?
Thanks.

FiiO, iBasso, AK Jr. and lots more mount both disks- only the Sony doesn't and Astell and Kern 100 thru 380 are lost causes :-/

What I have tested is here with some notes:

I read the user manual of the new zx100 and it will let you change on the fly storages while conencted to PC, great news, I ordered mine today

  I want XBA-300 so bad with ZX2.

Not feeling any love with the Z5 when compared to EX1000. I find EX1000 has less bass and its more clearer than Z5. I listen to psy-trance and Z5 puts out too much bass.

I have my XBA-A3 and i find they output deep bass only when needed, f.e i am listening to a baroque opera and i notice nice bass but not boom at all, earlier i listened to an old so-so mastered recording and outputted lots of bass, but was the record's mastering

I asked a friend to get me one from Japan during his visit on 23rd, Japan is the only place to get the non inline mic version, from the information collected, but can't be sure.

Inline mic version is MDR XBA 300AP

Non inline mic version is MDR XBA 300

zx2 also does this.. I can swap drives on the fly as well.. What you may want to look if both drives show up at same time in zx100
