SONY NW-ZX100

I'm mightily impressed with my NW-ZX100. I thought my iBasso DX90 sounded good until I compared the Sony and DX90 directly. The Sony is clearly better, with greater seperation and a wider sound-stage. The DX90 does go louder though.
In fact, I think it sounds as good as my NW-ZX2. OK, it lacks the ability to use Qobuz, Tidal etc, but as a stand-alone DAP I think the NW-ZX100 is awesome.

Hi, I'm new member. Have just got a new one with a very good price (about 300 usd), really enjoy it.
I thought about iBasso DX80 before, but now I think I had a right decision. :)

Yes, after using both iBasso and Sony products, Sony has the definite edge on UI and features. I also find the Bluetooth option on the Sony models useful for when I want/need to ditch the cord.

Yes, a fundamental difference. The NWZ-A15 sounds weak and unfocused compared to the NW-ZX100. If you've never heard the ZX100, then the A15 sounds good. But once you've heard the ZX100, there's no going back.
IMO the ZX100 sounds as good as my ZX2.

It is pretty great sounding even next to the ZX2 until you utilize the ZX2's trrs connection.  I have both and most of the time I pick up the ZX2 via TRRS.  I think I'll use the ZX100 more if I I make a decent adapter going from TRRS to TRS mini stereo.

Thanks Kelly. I wish I could use 200gb sd card on the ZX100. I have not read anywear that ZX100 would work properly.

I use a 200GB microSD in mine, and it works fine:)

If I'm coming from an HD5, would the A15 be a  downgrade?

I've never heard/used a HD5, but I presume it only played lossy MP3/ATRAC? If that's the case, then the A15 should definitely be a step up.

what if I don't care about playing lossless files (which I don't)

I'd say stick with the HD5 then.
