Hi, @Sonywalkmanuser can you share the exactly model of Swissbit are you using now? I saw there are 2 model of 256 the different is “I” and “E” in their name.

E is for extended temp
I is for industrial

Just differences in operating temperature. Industrial ones goes even lower to -40C. Which makes it slightly more expensive. I got the Industrial one as the E required more waiting time at the time of my purchase.

I have few questions about 1ZM2 (EU version):

1. How good will Z1R headphones pair with balanced port? Has it enough power for EU capped version? Audio quality won't be compromised?
2. What is the reason I have to worry about capped version? My daily use would be MX4 headphones & in-car stereo.
3. Using M2 in-car should I go AUX (3.5mm) or Bluetooth for best audio quality?

Using it with Bluetooth headphones will be no issue at all, but then you wouldn't pay 1A/1ZM2 price just as a BT source. Capping/High Gain issue is wired only.

Based on below for the MX4 wired, it should still drive them wired. My The FiiO FD7 has an impedance of 50Ω (Ohm) and a sensitivity of about 111dB @ 1mW and volume still OK with capped version to drive them.

Wired should be best for audio quality especially as most cars won't have LDAC BT

I don't like in ear headphones. I purchased Z1R headphones for ZM2. I don't know what to do right now. I will have Z1R which I won't be able to use with my DAP. Last Sony interview said it will play with Z1R very good. They didn't mention not for guys who purchased EU capped version.
1. Can I purchase some headphone amp for Z1R that I can use with ZM2?
2. Should I sell XM4 and Z1R and purchase something else for ZM2 EU version? I really wanted to use Z1R..

Do same as me, wait until Amazon Japan has back in stock. Even with delivery/duties it should come out over £100 cheaper (1AM2) and no capping nonsense. I check daily The capped 1ZM2 I just had and sent back would drive my 3 IEM's fine but I'm not paying a premium for a compromised device and making resale difficult. I had no issue selling on my Japanese import A107 & ZX507 because they weren't capped.

Before I foolishly cancelled my pre-order and with exchange rates at pre-order time, it was estimated at £1140 with all fees (Amazon Japan, not a reseller) compared to £1299 on Amazon UK.

It's ~900 euro(~£760) for ZM2 tax in my country if it is outside EU.
I don't think I can cancel my preorder. Its from local store. Not official Sony but they get Sony stuff. They won't cancel it. They don't know anything about EU cap version. There is no official Sony here.
My best bet would be to buy some amp for Z1R. I can't send back Z1R for same reason. I'm stuck.

Sony is a joke, the Dap uncapped is allready underpowered, capped is a shame, is a scandal, is very sad to see a brand that does this to the costumers and asks almost 4k price, yes I know that is EU rules, but there are other ways to do that and leave the choice to listen high volumes or low to the costumers, even more sad is to know that Sq wise this dap must be awesome...

EU cap has been around to prevent some folks from ruining their hearing. Are you blaming SONY because they follow a rule they did not create?

Get something like a Fiio BTR5 to plug Z1R into but then its the BTR5 signature your listening to over LDAC BT and the 1AM2 is just a source same as your mobile phone could be.

Just wait and see what its like yourself if you can't cancel anyway.

Yes all the other brands are suckers, but they respect the costumers, but I think that if customers are so sympathetic to Sony's behavior, they should all import capped devices, and pay 3.8 k and be happy, pepper in the ass of others is sugar

A small portable amp is one option. The Oriolus BA300S is an interesting small portable tube amp that was made expressly for the smaller Sony DAPs, ZX300, ZX500. 4.4mm input/output, no volume control. The DAP controls the volume.
The BA300S has 2 versions. The 2nd version uses USB C, and not Micro USB to charge.


Oriolus also have a BA20 solid state amp, same size as the BA300
Unfortunately, I do not know whether an EU capped DAP would have any issues. i.e. Is the Sony warning based on current output, or? If current, then no problem, as the Sony would not be driving current, only passing a low power signal to the AMP high impedance input, and the amp/tubes would do the current driving. You could ask Oriolus to confirm, if you seriously consider it.

I use a modified Topping NX1S (150mw/32ohm) amp with my U.K. crippled A105 and the Sony warning still kicks in so doesn’t seem to be current related, simply time at volume >X. Seems to be at above about 85/120.
