Yes it can of course. I just don't listen critically when streaming, so using LDAC is both more convenient and not much of a SQ compromise either. Let's face it, Tidal streamed via LDAC to a WM1Z sounds significantly better than wired output from any smartphone...I don’t understand why streaming can’t be used with a short USB cables either…. Well, I guess because I don’t use it much, if at all.

Amen brother!!!Not really. Surely there comes a point in the journey when you can say 'that's it, I'm happy right here'? If not, you'll be forever wandering, looking for what's next, what's new, what's different.
For me, when I discovered the 'Sony sound' with Z1R, and then the 1Z, I knew that I've reached a point where not only was it good enough, but actually so much better than I could have imagined.
Beyond this point is the massive cliff of diminishing returns. So, I can continue to look for more/better/different at great cost and effort, or I can accept that the Signature Series is already so incredibe, and be thankful and humble just to have the privelege of enjoying it every day while the world is in turmoil.
I know my choice. What's yours?

Just a quick comment on volume cap compared to a new Hiby R5gen2 that just arrived.
That has long battery life using Sabre Amp and also the Class A amp. Three levels og Gain for both.
Listening to same track on 1ZM2 balanced I'd be at 85/120 and via balanced, low gain on Hiby R5 30/100 using Sabre Amp and 28/100 with Class A amp.
In high gain about 2 stops lower.
Hiby starts twice as quick from off.

On my 1ZM2 I have high gain but listen on low gain at 68 or so. Any higher is a lot for my ears. Must have wimpy ears. Lol
I bought mine in HK and the volume control is like this:Nope
Also, here are the sound setting screen shots (Android setting) for information:

Same on mine from Amazon Japan
Finally, day by day, reached 250hrs on balanced output, the counter changed to yellow (seems gold) color.
This is my first DAP with Android OS and I just received a new music server. So I tried to install Roon on 1Z, and it works, but the connection is not very stable.

Yeh, thats how it was on the Japanese ZX507 I had too, all missing on EU crippled versions.Same on mine from Amazon Japan

it is so sad EU version disabled high gain and applied volume cap. I really don't understand why they enforced such regulations on a simple DAP... I was shocked when I first heard there are such measures to limit the volume, to limit a person on how they enjoy the music... Anyway, I understand it is not my position to talk too much on EU volume cap issue, just to share some of my thoughts. BTW, with Phonix, I just use volume 50 on low gain.On my 1ZM2 I have high gain but listen on low gain at 68 or so. Any higher is a lot for my ears. Must have wimpy ears. Lol

Keen to hear your opinion on the Hiby
Posted initial comments in the appropriate thread.
Doing some back to back listening now to both DAPs with K10U, FD7 and SE846 all via 4.4mm balanced.
Volume match with my SE846 4.4 balanced.
SONY 100/120
Hiby 40/100 low gain
Bloody ridiculous regarding EU volume on Sony, but still sounds beatiful, but the Hiby is no dissapointment either.
At the early stage as you should expect the 1ZM2 is tops for Sound quality (for me anyway). Certainly not 10x the cost better!

How do they compare sound wise to the ZX507? I like my A105 sound but want something with more power. Even my cheap IEM’s perform better via a small 150mW/32ohm anoPosted initial comments in the appropriate thread.

Sony is a different signature, warm/musical/smooth while Hiby more shrill, neutral. The A class amp is bit warmer than built in Sabre amp.How do they compare sound wise to the ZX507?
Even at this early stage its clear the Z is better in every way SQ wise, smoother, wider, more seperation, in the room with musicians feel.
Even with volume cap its best I've ever heard from DAP or DAC with my 3 IEM's. I just don't think the EU version will drive Headphones well. If I didn't know the non EU versions were much more cabable I'd keep it as its still fine for my IEM's but why pay more for a crippled EU version over importing from Japan.
Think the FD7 are 75ohm and it drives them fine.
An improvement on the ZX507 for sure. As already said the sweet spot will be the non-EU 1AM2 based on price/performance. The gold/copper Z and its weight really makes you feel you've got top dog DAP in your hand.

I've got to get an un-capped A or even Z
If money no object, and you want the best materials, build quality, sound this is it!
The Hiby at £310 is a bargain but Sony in a different league with all HD files I've tried (not tried any streaming).
If your only ever going to drive low demand IEM's then even with EU crippled version you shouldn't need more than 100/120.
And after 200hrs it gets better?
