My test of SanDisk Extreme vs Internal Storage on 1ZM2 shocked me about how crappy SanDisk sounded

How did you test? Same audio file copied on both internal storage and microSD? Listening is done with the Walkman App?
And what do you mean by crappy? The difference was so important that you could tell which song is on the microSD in a blind test?

Battery consumption compare between CHN FW (0003, 1.00.09) and JP FW (0000, 1.01.00)

Balanced output, volume 50~55,
Walkman player
Hi-res files : CD quality files =1:5
Hi-gain on, DSEE on, DC on, Vinyl on, EQ off, PCM to DSD off
Airplane mode on, WIFI and Bluetooth off

disabled apps are set according to @Sonywalkmanuser
https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sony-wm1am2-and-wm1zm2-android-walkman-optimization-guide.962975/

It looks that the battery consumptions of these two FWs are identical under such load case.

I believe that there could be differences for a very small group of people with extreme hearing. Fortunately I’m not amongst those so inflicted. Ignorance can be bliss sometimes

but once those people fail 50% during an A / B test... it is just their wish and imagination, also called the father of placebo, that gives them a good feeling... this kind of striving for endless optimization.

Not true, A&K SP2000, which is available from now nearly 3 years, had 512 Gb of onboard memory.
And yet they also backed off it with their latest version, the SP2000T ain’t they? Despite it being the biggest SP player.
